Tourism businesses across the northern section of the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coastal Route showcased the very best of this part of our island to leading international travel buyers this week at the inaugural Shared Island Tourism Workshop. The workshop brought together 50 overseas tour operators from eight key tourism markets and 110 tourism businesses from Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal and the Causeway Coastal Route, from Hazelbank Park to Derry. As the first initiative of its kind under the Shared Island framework, it highlighted the strong connectivity between these iconic routes, encouraging visitors to stay longer, explore more and spread the economic benefits of tourism across the region. More than 1,500 commercial meetings took place, creating valuable opportunities for tourism businesses, including hotels, visitor attractions, food and drink experiences, distilleries and activity providers, to build relationships, secure future business and grow overseas visitor numbers for 2027 and beyond. The workshop forms part of a wider all-island tourism collaboration between Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Northern Ireland and Tourism Ireland, supported by the Government of Ireland's Shared Island Fund. Together, the partners are working to enhance the visitor journey across the North West and North Coast, developing compelling tourism experiences that strengthen the international appeal of both the Wild Atlantic Way and Causeway Coastal Route. Ahead of the workshop, overseas buyers experienced the region first-hand through familiarisation visits across Sligo and Donegal. From a guided Taste of Sligo Food Tour, Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery and Lough Gill to Sliabh Liag Cliffs, Magee of Donegal and Wild Ireland, the programme showcased the rich heritage, culture, craftsmanship, food experiences and spectacular landscapes that make this part of the island so distinctive.

The 2026 Amgen Irish Open is underway this week, once again placing Ireland in the global spotlight as one of the world's leading golf destinations. With thousands of spectators attending Trump International Golf Links and millions of viewers tuning in from around the world, the tournament provides a valuable opportunity to showcase not only world-class golf, but also the exceptional visitor experiences available across Ireland. As part of its activation at the event, Fáilte Ireland, in partnership with Tourism Northern Ireland, is hosting Irish golf tourism businesses, including golf clubs, resorts and hotels, helping them connect directly with domestic and international golf enthusiasts and inspire future golf holidays on the island of Ireland. Golf visitors are among the highest-value overseas visitors to Ireland, with many travelling beyond the main tourism centres to experience the country's renowned links and parkland courses, spectacular landscapes, vibrant towns, unique heritage and warm hospitality.
