That’s a wrap! I’ve finished my summer internship with Akara, where I worked as a Mechanical R&D Engineering Intern. It’s been a great opportunity to gain hands-on engineering experience and work alongside a team developing technology to aid in hospital efficiency. Throughout the summer, I worked across CAD, 3D printing, prototyping and assembly, getting the chance to take ideas from initial designs through to physical builds. Some of my main projects included designing and building a panel to house and integrate a number of Akara’s sensors, as well as developing a test rig to measure and evaluate the forces involved in part installation. These projects gave me the opportunity to work through the design process, prototype different solutions, test and iterate on them, and ultimately turn designs into working hardware. I also had the chance to collaborate with different members of the team, solve practical engineering problems and develop my technical skills in a real-world environment. A massive thank you to everyone at Akara for being so welcoming and for all the support and guidance over the past few months. I’ve learned a huge amount and really enjoyed my time there. Now, onto my final year of Mechanical Engineering at Trinity College Dublin!
