"Senior" is no longer about years of experience. It’s about how you think under uncertainty. We used to measure growth like this: → 1 year = Junior → 3 years = Mid → 5+ years = Senior That model is broken. I’ve seen developers with 10 years of experience who still wait for clear instructions. And others with 2 years who can navigate chaos, ask the right questions, and move a product forward with zero roadmap. In today’s world: * Docs are incomplete * Requirements are moving * AI gives you 10 answers, not *the* answer So what really matters? 👉 Can you make decisions without certainty? 👉 Can you take ownership when things are unclear? 👉 Can you move forward when no one tells you how? Two companies spent €400,000 on engineering salaries this year. One reported a €400,000 cost. The other reported €90,000. Nobody's cheating. Both are right. Here's what happened. The second company decided most of that salary was building something that would earn money for years. So instead of charging it all to this year, they put it on the balance sheet as an asset. That's called capitalising. The cost doesn't disappear, it gets spread out. A slice each year. So they show €90,000 now, then about €77,500 a year for the next four. Same people. Same work. Same money out of the bank. Two completely different profit numbers. 1️⃣ Somebody drew that line Early experimenting is this year's cost. Building something you know you'll use can be capitalised. But where exactly does experimenting end and building begin? A person decided that, probably in a short conversation you weren't in. Shift the line by two months and your profit shifts with it. 2️⃣ Your cash doesn't change at all Not one euro moves differently. The €400,000 left your account on the same days either way. 3️⃣ Investors will undo it In diligence they take those costs back out and look at your profit without them. If your numbers only work one way round, that's where it shows. 4️⃣ The charge still comes, even if the product doesn't You spread it because it was going to earn for years. If it doesn't, you're carrying the charge anyway, in the years you'd least like to. I'm not against capitalising. For something with a real multi-year life, it's the truer picture. I just think you should know which one you're doing, and why, before somebody else asks you first. How much of your engineering cost is on your balance sheet right now?

Most people assume AI struggles inside companies because the technology is still immature. What I’ve seen, especially in Romanian, is simpler and more uncomfortable, AI usually fails because we choose the wrong processes to automate. In labs, AI works in clean, stable conditions. Inside companies, processes evolved with exceptions, workarounds, and parallel systems. When AI is integrated into tour he business processes, we instinctively start with the most painful process, the one everyone complains about. That instinct is costly.
