BGG ratings as an election
Central idea: what if we don't consider ratings as absolute numbers, but rather denoting preferences? Ratings then become preferential votes, i.e., I prefer the games I rated 9 over those I rated 8 etc.
One critical problem will be what to do with unrated games. Most methods, e.g., the quoted Schulze method, assumes that the voter prefers any ranked item over all other items. This is most definitely not true for games: a game I rated 1 should be considered to be inferior to all other games.
One way around this might be using the output of the recommendation algorithm instead. This ranks all games in a meaningful way, but then again, any election method might just replicate that ranking.
