memory_usage_accuracy: memory_usage_of_a_key_stays_put_when_other_keys_come_and_go always fails on arm64 (tables not shrunk) #508

Open

Description

@murtazayusuf

On an Azure arm64 VM (D32ps_v5), tests/memory_usage_accuracy.rs memory_usage_of_a_key_stays_put_when_other_keys_come_and_go fails on every run with "tables not shrunk: N, N after deleting the other keys". It does the same with master's unchanged binary. It passes in CI on x86_64.

So either the background shrink sweep behaves differently on arm64, or the test's deadline or assumptions are x86-specific (allocator, page size, timing).

Next step: find out whether the shard tables really don't shrink on arm64, which would be a memory issue for arm64 users and Graviton deployments, or whether the test is environment-specific.

Found while investigating #506.
