How to override default environment variables in keycloak pod?

We are using custom keycloak image.
We tried to add environment variables to keycloak pod using "additionalProperties" field. But the environment variables that comes with the default keycloak template are not getting overridden when we pass the same property using "additionalProperties". Is this the expected behaviour? Will there be any provision to override existing environment variables in keycloak pod?
