This is anticipated in the protocol white paper. The "Account Group" is a group of all the devices of one user, so that their messages can be viewed on any device. See: https://berty.tech/docs/protocol#account-group
At the moment, this is not implemented in Berty Messenger which, for simplicity, runs on one mobile device. (However, there is an account export/import feature but that is not quite the same as "sharing across devices.") When multi-device account is implement as described in the protocol white paper, then you will be able to "send a message to yourself."
Is there an existing issue for this?

Feature request
There should be a Group set up by default that just contains you. The group could be used for syncing notes / documents across your devices.
Context
This would provide a more rapid introduction to the app and provide private p2p notes / document storage.
Possible implementation
During device setup, create a group that only contains the current user.
