anaconda symlink entrypoint can hide conda base environment plugins #235

Open

Description

@mattkram

Description

When ana is bootstrapped, it installs a standalone environment with anaconda-cli-base, which defines the anaconda entrypoint. This is used when ana wraps existing subcommands implemented in Python and is part of our long-term gradual migration strategy.

However, because of PATH precedence, the ~/.ana/bin/anaconda entrypoint can pre-empty e.g. ~/miniconda3/bin/anaconda. This means that plugins installed into the base environment will be unknown by the former and will not work.

Steps to reproduce

n/a

Expected behavior

n/a

Actual behavior

Missing subcommand error would be raised.

Ana version

0.1.5

Operating system

macOS

Additional context

We will remove the symlink behavior to avoid this. Over time, we will more carefully deal with this divergence.

    If anyone experiences this issue before we resolve it, the ~/.ana/bin/anaconda entrypoint symlink can be removed. To recover, ana tool install anaconda-cli.
