Define the financial freedom / FIRE model #24

Open

Description

@adeebahmed

Design and implement the core algorithm that answers: 'Can I retire by date X, and what do I need to get there?'

Scope

  • Define inputs: current net worth, monthly income, monthly expenses, target retirement date, expected annual return, safe withdrawal rate (4% rule baseline)
  • Define outputs: projected retirement date, monthly savings needed, gap analysis, runway at current trajectory
  • Handle debt payoff in the model (debt reduces net investable assets)
  • Handle multiple scenarios (conservative/moderate/aggressive return assumptions)
  • Document the math — this is the heart of the product

Notes

  • Start simple: standard FIRE math. Complexity can be layered on after MVP.
  • Must integrate with the existing Retirement page and net worth data.

Planned for Phase 3: Onboarding & FIRE Model

    Research findings:

    • FIRE model is a Tier 3 differentiator (no competitor does this locally with conversational AI)
    • Simple math: 4% safe withdrawal rate, portfolio size = annual expenses × 25
    • Three CAGR scenarios: conservative (4%), base (6%), optimistic (8%)
    • 'Can I retire by [date]?' is the highest-value projection question per user research

    Planned deliverable:

    • FIRE calculator with adjustable inputs (savings rate, annual expenses, expected return, target retirement date)
    • Three-scenario output with plain-language projection
    • Goal progress visualization on main dashboard
    • Integration with Map user journey: financial freedom goal-setting flow #11 (user journey / goal-setting flow)
