nix path-info -h and sort -h are incompatible #16716
Description
Problem
Although an example of nix path-info -h being piped to sort -h was never documented, it is still possible to run, but unfortunately results in incorrect sorting because sort expects human-readable file sizes in the form outputted by other coreutils, for example 1.0G. It would be nice if this use case was supported instead of having to view non-human-readable filesizes or needing to write a lengthy jq expression.
Proposal
One of the following would close this issue:
- Have
nix path-infoprint the file sizes in a way compatible with thesortprogram - Add an option to
nix path-infoto toggle between the current format and asort-compatible format - Document that this use case is not supported
