  • One of the most important questions in #healthcare #AI is no longer whether a model performs well in isolation. It is whether the surrounding system is mature enough to make that performance usable, governable, and valuable in practice. That is particularly true in #cancer diagnostics, where the real challenge is not only interpretation, but the architecture around it: data quality, workflow integration, clinical trust, deployment discipline, and institutional readiness. This recent piece from Kinda Chebib reflects that broader shift in the market.

The next battleground in healthcare AI is not model accuracy. It is who controls the system around the model. Cancer diagnostic AI in Europe and MENA is shifting from algorithm competition to architecture competition: from “who has the best model?” to “who owns the deployment stack?” - Can it plug into real workflows? - Can it survive EU-level governance? - Can it scale from pilots to system capacity? In cancer imaging, durable value now sits in patient context, multimodal data, infrastructure, workflow integration, and governance - not in image interpretation alone. AIMG’s latest thought leadership from its Advisory Board on cancer diagnostic AI illustrates this shift and shows why expert-in-the-loop research matters. AIMG’s methodology combines quantitative evidence with practitioner insight from its Advisory Board and Expert Network to generate practitioner-level market and deployment insights, not just generic AI narratives. Europe is becoming the lab for trusted, regulated AI infrastructure. MENA brings demand growth and modernization pressure to redesign diagnostic pathways. The winners will not simply be the most accurate. They will be those who turn AI into trusted, reusable, investment-ready diagnostic infrastructure. 🎙️ Podcast Episode 1 | AI in cancer diagnosis: from reading to the next frontier In #cancerdiagnostics, even a strong AI system must answer a harder question: does it improve care without creating unnecessary #biopsies, workflow burden, and added cost? That question feels especially timely after Jensen Huang’s NVIDIA GTC 2026 keynote, which made clear that AI is moving beyond standalone models toward #inference, #physicalAI, open systems, and the infrastructure needed to deploy #intelligence in the real world. In #healthcare, the same shift is becoming increasingly visible. I recently sat down with Dr Luc ROTENBERG, radiologist in Paris, SYLVIE DAVILA, Founder and CEO of Hera-MI, and Dr Mickael Tardy, Chief Scientific Officer at Hera-MI, for a UPM INNOVATION conversation on what this means for AI in cancer diagnosis today. One of the most important points to emerge from the discussion was that progress cannot be assessed through #algorithmic performance alone. Better systems may support detection and interpretation, but they can also create downstream effects across the diagnostic pathway: more biopsies, more follow-up investigations, added pressure on clinicians, greater cost for health systems, and more anxiety for patients. This is why confidence in machine performance, regulatory clarity, and cost-effectiveness are not secondary issues. They are central to whether AI creates meaningful clinical value. At UPM INNOVATION, we see this as part of a broader shift in healthcare AI: moving beyond isolated image analysis toward multimodal, workflow-aware, clinically deployable systems. The key question is no longer only whether a model performs well, but whether the full pathway around it is robust enough to support trusted use in practice, from reading and triage to confirmation, workflow integration, and deployment readiness. For those building the next generation of healthcare AI, this is where the discussion becomes especially important. The future of cancer diagnosis will not be shaped by better models alone, but by the ability to align compute, data, clinical integration, governance, and infrastructure into systems that health systems can actually trust and scale. The full discussion goes much deeper into these questions and highlights why the future of cancer diagnosis may be as much an #infrastructure story as a #software one. • What will separate the next generation of cancer diagnostics from the last wave of AI hype? Not better demos. Better infrastructure. UPM Innovation has recently published a new research paper, “Artificial intelligence and robotics in cancer diagnostic imaging: From algorithmic performance to image-guided diagnostic infrastructure,” authored by Kinda Chebib and Mickael Tardy. The paper makes a timely and important argument: in cancer imaging, value does not come from algorithmic performance alone. It comes from building governed diagnostic infrastructure across the full pathway, where AI strengthens interpretation, robotics strengthens confirmation, and health systems can monitor performance, accountability, and real-world clinical impact over time. This is precisely why the research matters. It highlights two strategically important regions. Europe stands out because of its population-scale screening pathways, mature regulatory structures, and growing real-world evidence on imaging AI deployment. Saudi Arabia stands out because of its centralised health transformation, digital infrastructure ambitions, virtual-care scaling, and regulator-led governance, making it one of the most important emerging environments for large-scale diagnostic innovation in the Gulf. For leaders shaping the future of AI in healthcare, this is the real message: the next frontier is not isolated intelligence, but the ability to connect medical imaging, robotics, workflow integration, governance, compute, and clinical accountability into one reliable system. The research also maps an ecosystem of actors already helping define this space, including Hera-MI, Lunit, Vara, deepc, Perfint Healthcare Pvt Ltd., Medical Templates AG, and Intuitive, alongside key institutional signals from SFDA - هيئة الغذاء والدواء, SEHA - Abu Dhabi Health Services Co., King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center , and Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) At UPM INNOVATION, the goal is clear: to produce decision-grade research that helps healthcare leaders, policymakers, and strategic partners understand what can scale safely, what requires stronger governance, and what it will take to turn AI into trusted clinical infrastructure. For stakeholders advancing sovereign AI, healthcare compute, and next-generation diagnostic infrastructure, this is where long-term value will be created: not only in intelligence, but in deployment-grade, clinically accountable systems that can scale in practice. The full paper is attached for readers interested in the complete analysis and regional mapping. #SovereignAI #UPMInnovation #CancerDiagnostics #MedicalImaging #ClinicalAI #RadiologyAI #HealthcareInfrastructure #HealthcareRobotics #Oncology #DigitalHealth #AIinHealthcare #NVIDIA #NVIDIAHealthcare #HeraMi #Lunit #Vara #deepc #Perfint #Intuitive #KFSHRC #JHAH #SehaVirtualHospital #SFDA #PIF #SaudiVision2030 #GoogleCloud

  • 2025 hChain 4.0: The New Blueprint for Secure Healthcare AI - Reflected in the Samsung × Galeon Alliance Earlier this year, Samsung Healthcare partnered with Galeon to connect its AI-powered ultrasound devices directly to Galeon’s Web3 EHR, now deployed in 18 European hospitals. Why does this matter? Because more than 80% of ultrasound data in hospitals is still not digitally structured or integrated into patient records. Results often circulate as paper printouts or USB keys, leaving radiologists without historical measurements, slowing diagnosis, and increasing error risk. The Samsung–Galeon integration finally closes this gap: imaging data now flows securely and automatically into the patient’s record, protected through blockchain, Web3 infrastructure, swarm learning, and decentralized AI. Patient data never leaves the hospital, yet encrypted datasets can still contribute to AI training, a major leap for privacy-preserving innovation. With ultrasound representing 40% of global imaging volumes, this kind of interoperability can transform diagnostic workflows, improve continuity of care, and accelerate AI-assisted radiology. These developments align with the newest research in the field. A 2025 study on hChain 4.0 proposes a secure, scalable permissioned blockchain architecture for EHR management in smart healthcare systems, showing how decentralized, privacy-preserving frameworks are becoming essential for next-generation medical data exchange and AI-driven diagnostics. UPM INNOVATION is actively researching this intersection of AI, Web3, and medical imaging, because it is reshaping how radiologists work and how health systems protect and use sensitive clinical data. #Healthcare #Radiology #MedicalImaging #EHR #Interoperability #AIinHealthcare #Blockchain #Web3 #DataSecurity #DigitalHealth #Samsung #Galeon #SwarmLearning #HealthTech #UPMInnovation #DecentralizedHealth #DeSci #ClinicalData #SecureEHR https://lnkd.in/esfnErp8

  • U.S.–Saudi Arabia Investment Forum: AI Didn’t Replace Radiologists, It Made Them More Essential Than Ever UPM Innovation x Hera-Mi | Clinical Evidence Matters At the recent U.S.–Saudi Arabia Investment Forum in Washington, Jensen Huang highlighted: Radiology was expected to be automated away. Instead, AI has increased the need for radiologists. This reflects what we see daily at UPM Innovation through our research and our collaboration with Hera-MI EN AI does not replace clinical expertise, it expands it, revealing what the human eye may miss and strengthening diagnostic confidence. Today, we share a powerful testimony from one of UPM’s collaborating radiologists, with real-world cases showing how AI and clinicians together deliver significantly better outcomes. 🎥 Watch the video below: “When Radiologists + AI Become a True Clinical Partnership” Key insights from the cases: 1️⃣ AI Detects What Humans Miss A subtle lesion, invisible to both radiologists, was detected by Hera-Mi’s AI. Further imaging confirmed it: a carcinoma caught early thanks to AI-guided attention. 2️⃣ AI Reduces Unnecessary Alarm An apparent suspicious mass was flagged as non-suspicious by AI. Biopsy confirmed a benign hamartoma, avoiding unnecessary anxiety and over-treatment. 3️⃣ AI Reveals Multifocal Disease AI identified additional microcalcifications missed initially. Biopsy confirmed a second invasive carcinoma, enabling complete patient management. These are not hypothetical use cases, they are real patients, real decisions, and real clinical value. 🧠 What This Means AI is becoming a trusted clinical companion: augmenting radiologists, reducing blind spots, and improving diagnostic quality at scale. As our radiologist puts it: 👉 “AI is a colleague, always there, sometimes showing what we don’t see.” 🌍 UPM Innovation’s Work Our mission is to support policymakers, hospitals, and governments in integrating AI and Blockchain responsibly and effectively into healthcare systems. Through initiatives like HealthChain, and partnerships with innovators such as Hera-Mi, we provide evidence-based research on how AI, blockchain, robotics, and deep learning can strengthen imaging, diagnostics, and patient-centred care. 📢 Watch the full video below and join the conversation.
