Work Text:
There was something wrong in Derry. From the trees to the water. It's in every house. Like a mould that never goes away, no matter how much somebody scrubs.
The men drink until they pass out, hoping to shake off the feeling that something awful was stalking them. Women smoked a cigarette before popping a sleeping pill to ensure their sleep remained dreamless.
Children looked to their parents to offer comfort that never came. They got shouting and a raise fist or a belt but never comfort.
If they broke their children, tainted them and poisoned them until they were disgusting then maybe the evil that hid in every crack wouldn't want them.
