What does it truly mean to build resilient infrastructure? I recently had the opportunity to reflect on this question in a conversation with David Cánovas Williams for IMNOVATION Hub. Resilience today must go beyond designing infrastructure that can withstand disruption. It is also about understanding the purpose it serves, the communities it connects, its relationship with the environment, and the impact it can create today and for generations to come. We also discussed something I strongly believe in: the next generation of engineers is increasingly moving from asking “what are we building?” to asking “why are we building it, and what difference will it make?” That sense of purpose, together with curiosity, continuous learning, and the ability to communicate ideas, will be essential as we address increasingly complex global challenges.
