[edit]Derived from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀪𑀽𑀭 (*bhūra) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit *भ्रूर (bhrūra), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰruHrás, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰruH-ró-s, from the root *bʰerH-. Cognate with Punjabi ਭੂਰਾ (bhūrā), Gujarati ભૂરું (bhūrũ), Marathi भुरे (bhure).[1] Compare Sanskrit बभ्रु (bábhru, babhrú, “brown”) from the same root.
