[edit]From Byzantine Greek ψωμίν (psōmín), from ψωμίον (psōmíon), from Ancient Greek ψωμός (psōmós), from the verb ψώω (psṓō), an alternative form of ψάω (psáō, “to touch lightly, to rub”).
