[edit]From Malay permaisuri, from Classical Malay permaisuri, from Tamil பரமேஸ்வரி (paramēsvari), from Sanskrit परमेश्वरी (parameśvarī, “supreme lady”). Compare to Javanese ꦥꦿꦩꦺꦱ꧀ꦮꦫꦶ (praméswari, “queen”), Old Javanese pramiswari (“queen”).
