In the studio with acclaimed British designer Jasper Morrison – the same space where Pack Chair, his first design for HAY, began to take shape. A small model on a shelf caught the eye of Rolf Hay, HAY Co-founder and Creative Director of Furniture & Lighting, and became the starting point for the project. A contemporary reinterpretation of the trattoria chair, one of the most enduring and democratic forms in the history of seating, Pack translates a traditional archetype into an industrial context through an intuitive flat-pack construction. Solid oak legs and an optional plywood backrest are paired with a seat in 80% post-consumer recycled polypropylene, while the considered assembly logic allows for disassembly and repair. Available in a wide range of colours and plastic or upholstered variants, Pack suits restaurant and office spaces alike. It’s a hard-wearing, multi-use design that is ideal for hospitality and other high-traffic environments. Introducing Mimi Sofa by Philippe Malouin. An everyday sofa with a generous central cushion and gently raised edges that enclose the seat, offering a fluid silhouette that still holds its shape. The British-Canadian designer's first design for HAY, Mimi's tailored cover falls over the frame like a softly draped blanket. Precise stitching along the upper edges defines the sofa's outline before gradually loosening into a skirted base, where the fabric flows more freely. This subtle transition also signals the removable cover – developed for flexible use, allowing Mimi to be refreshed rather than replaced as fabrics wear, a practical consideration for high-traffic, multi-use spaces. Available as one- to three-seaters, including a two-and-a-half-seater, as well as an ottoman, in a range of high-quality textiles, with matching cushions available. Introducing Backflip Chair by Gudmundur Ludvik. Folding chairs have long carried a tension between functionality and comfort – a compromise Iceland-born, Denmark-based designer Gudmundur Ludvik set out to resolve with his first design for HAY. His answer relocates the mechanism from the seat, allowing Backflip to perform as a good chair first, and a folding chair second. Rotate the backrest and it folds in a single, fluid motion. Unlike traditional folding chairs, the mechanism here is ingeniously integrated into the backrest itself – an original solution, invisible from the outside, with no compromise to the chair's proportions or comfort when in use. Designed for spaces that need to flex without compromise, Backflip performs equally well in a conference hall or a dining spaces – specified for high-traffic, multi-use environments, without ever reading as temporary seating. Introducing Pack Chair by Jasper Morrison. Pack is the renowned British designer's first chair for HAY – a contemporary reinterpretation of the trattoria chair, one of the most enduring and anonymous forms in the history of seating. The ambition from the outset was to create an accessible design, true to the trattoria chair's democratic origins: a chair equally at home in a family kitchen, a restaurant floor or an office space. That accessibility comes with a quiet technical rigour, in keeping with Morrison's 'Super Normal' approach. Pack is made from 80% post-consumer recycled polypropylene blended with wood fibres, with solid oak legs, an optional plywood backrest and an upholstered seat cover – delivered flat-packed for easy assembly. Living with HAY: Paola Nerilli & Angelo Milano, Puglia, Italy. In Grottaglie, Puglia, art director Paola Nerilli and gallerist Angelo Milano have built a home in close dialogue with StudiocCromie, the screenprinting studio and gallery Angelo runs from the same site, with HAY designs woven in throughout, indoors and out. The house unfolds around the couple's own work – Angelo designed the tiles for each room himself, and the colours and patterns carry through into the rustic architecture and the art on the walls. Contemporary HAY designs, including the Amanta Sofa by Mario Bellini, the Uchiwa Lounge Chair and Quilton Sofa by Doshi Levien, and the Palissade Collection, are where the couple host, work, and live alongside the art. For this creative couple, the two are inseparable – the furniture and the objects they live with tell a story about who they are.
