Pete Turnbull shared thisAfter Paul Woods' first two books (https://lnkd.in/gBXUemMy) this is an autobuy!Pete Turnbull shared thisIt's nearly here. My new book, 'AI on Our Terms' is now available for pre-order (Kindle and Paperback). And I'm excited to share a sneak preview below. "AI on Our Terms: A Leadership Guide to Building People Centred, AI Empowered Organisations" Available 25 September 2025 Over the past nine months, while the AI hype cycle has been in full swing, I've been digging into a bigger question: "How do we embrace AI, without losing what makes our people and our organisation great?" This book is about unlocking the upside of AI... without sacrificing the culture, leadership, and ways of working that give you your edge. The good news? We've seen patterns like this before. If we look back at the last century of management and organisational science, there's a playbook available. Most organisations aren't using it yet... but they should. Want a preview? You can read a sample chapter below and learn more at paulwoods.ai/book If you would like to help (and beat the algorithms while you are at it), two quick things: 1) Pre order a copy today (Kindle or Paperback): - the Kindle version is the lowest price I can set it until 4 July. - Search "AI on Our Terms" in the Kindle store and pre order today 2) Leave a comment below: - After reading the preview, I'd love to hear your thoughts For Paperback pre orders, there are options for individuals or businesses, including a chance to be listed in the acknowledgements for bulk orders placed before 30 August. Learn more at paulwoods.ai/book Thanks for all your support. It has been a labour of love the past few months, and I can't wait to get this book into your hands. (and a big thank you to the handful of beta readers who have provided early feedback!)

Pete Turnbull shared thisA universal "Rule of thumb: never assume understanding. Always probe, simplify, and protect." great post Matthew Day!Pete Turnbull shared this"Smart boards still miss the obvious—and the CFO is left to clean up the mess. At a Fortune-500 briefing, half the room hadn’t even noticed our capital intensity. I said, “You probably know this,” and walked them through the deal structure. The light bulbs went off. In consumer digital health, the published accounts looked nothing like the management P&L. One oversimplified bridge—and the penny dropped (plus an apology). Same company, a quick coffee chat: a director admitted revenue drivers were a total blur. Five minutes with a napkin diagram fixed that. And in a SEC-listed role, local statutory directors had never been briefed on liability gaps. The first duty of a CFO? Protect the board from unwitting breaches. Even in charity work, I learned the hard way—our finance lead said, “Matthew, you do realize...?” I didn’t. Rule of thumb: never assume understanding. Always probe, simplify, and protect. How do you make sure your directors truly grasp the numbers—and the risks?' #IBIConsulting #CFOInsights #FinanceLeadership #BoardGovernance

Cyber budgets aren’t just cost centres - they’re targeted investments in resilience, digital trust and future readiness. But here’s the catch: Most cyber leaders usually know where the investment needs to go. What’s often missing is the ability to connect that investment to business impact - to tell a story that resonates with a CFO or CEO. As you shape your ROI story, don’t just explain the risk - show it. This isn’t about fear. It’s about forward-looking planning, targeted investment and financial fluency. Here are a few tools - beyond risk registers, heat maps or state-of-plays - that help bring the cyber story to life and build alignment with finance, risk and executive teams 👇 🟦 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 ↳ Microsoft Sign-In Logs → Your front door is under attack ↳ cybermap.kaspersky.com → Types of threat activity, live ↳ Microsoft Secure Score → Your posture vs. the industry 🟩 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘁 “𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲’𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺” ↳ ransomlook.io → Real-time ransom activities ↳ ransomwhe.re → Ransomware payment tracker ↳ haveibeenpwned.com → Your orgs credential exposure ↳ Info is Beautiful (https://lnkd.in/eTubkRmP) → 20 years of breaches, visualised 🟨 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲-𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀 ↳ bitsight.com → Like a credit score but for your cyber health ↳ stackup.tech → Fast, low-cost review of your technology foundations ↳ securityscorecard.com → Benchmark vs. peers, vendors and target acquisitions 📌 𝗠𝘆 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲: This isn’t about inflating budgets - it’s about aligning around what matters. Frame cyber like a CFO would: in terms of impact, investment and enablement. Cyber, finance and risk leaders must co-own the narrative. How do you make cyber risk real for those outside tech?

Pete Turnbull reacted on thisPete Turnbull reacted on thisIn my previous article, The Quality of Thought, I explored how the value of an idea is not determined solely by its content, but by how effectively it is communicated. A well-crafted deliverable has the power to influence decisions. A poorly structured one can diminish even the strongest thinking. That reflection led me to another question. How do we know whether all of the work we are doing is actually making the organisation better? This article explores what I believe is one of the most subtle challenges facing modern enterprises: The Illusion of Progress. Today's organisations have become exceptionally good at generating activity. Projects are delivered. Strategies are refreshed. Technology is implemented. Transformation programs continue to grow. Yet activity is not the same as progress, and movement is not the same as improvement. Perhaps one of the most important questions every leadership team should ask is not, "Are we delivering?" but rather, "Are we genuinely changing the trajectory of the organisation?" The distinction is profound. It shifts the conversation from outputs to outcomes, from project success to capability improvement, and from measuring motion to measuring meaningful organisational progress. If your organisation is looking to ensure that its investments create lasting enterprise value, not simply more activity, please reach out to us at Chrysalis Global. We enjoy helping organisations translate strategy into measurable capability, meaningful outcomes, and sustainable progress.

Pete Turnbull liked thisPete Turnbull liked thisPower Apps Code Apps + SharePoint Embedded = real-time collaborative apps. I stitched these two ecosystems together to see how far they can go for real-time, multi-user collaborative experiences - without deploying custom infrastructure. So I experimented with three progressively more ambitious apps: - Collaborative whiteboard with live cursors - Incident response workspace with shared state - Multiplayer DOOM running through Fluid Presence 🎮 The DOOM demo was the stress test, not the point. The real insight was how naturally the architecture came together: Code Apps gives you full React/TypeScript control SharePoint Embedded gives you Fluid Framework - SharedTree for persistent state - Presence for realtime signals Together, you get authenticated realtime collaboration built directly into the platform. No custom WebSocket servers. No realtime message broker to maintain. Auth is M365-native, though the token plumbing still took some wiring. The most surprising part was how composable the pattern became. The hardest part, honestly, was CSP configuration. 😅 Here's a quick teaser of all three in action. Sharing the source repo of these apps and architecture guide in the comments for anyone interested in experimenting with collaborative experiences on this stack. Pete Turnbull liked thisPete Turnbull liked thisHow one of the top creators of Claude Code actually uses Claude every day. Boris Cherny (Creator of Claude Code) has turned Claude into a full-blown engineering superpower. Here’s exactly how he does it: 1️⃣ Runs 5 Claude sessions in parallel Five windows open at once. A custom “Stop hook” pings him the moment one needs his input. 2️⃣ Works seamlessly across devices Starts on desktop (claude.ai/code), continues on the iOS app without losing context. 3️⃣ Always picks Opus + Thinking mode Slower per turn, but fewer retries and faster overall output. 4️⃣ One shared CLAUDE.md file The entire team maintains a single rules file in the repo. Every mistake = new rule added. 5️⃣ Tags @claude in pull requests Claude reviews PRs and automatically updates CLAUDE.md based on feedback. 6️⃣ Plan Mode before execution Shift + Tab twice → Claude plans first. Only then does he let it ship. 7️⃣ Slash commands for repetitive tasks Every repeat workflow becomes a slash command. One command now handles the full Git flow: commit → push → PR. 8️⃣ Sub-agents for parallel jobs Spawns specialized sub-agents (code simplifier, verify-app, etc.). 9️⃣ –dangerously-skip-permissions Runs Claude in a sandboxed environment so permission prompts never break the flow. 🔥 Most important tip from Boris: “Give Claude a feedback loop to verify its own work. It 2-3x’s the output quality.” 10️⃣ Plugs directly into team tools Sends Slack messages, pulls company data, checks error reports, same tools the human team uses. This isn’t just “using AI.” This is building an entire AI-powered engineering system.

Pete Turnbull reacted on thisPete Turnbull reacted on thisI’m pleased to share that I’ve completed the Kellogg Executive Education | AI Strategies for Business Transformation program. It was challenging, energising, and deeply rewarding. The course genuinely changed how I think about and apply AI in my work. The faculty’s perspectives and practical frameworks helped me fundamentally rethink where AI creates value and, critically, how to turn ideas into outcomes. The strong focus on Responsible AI was valuable— governance, human-in-the-loop design, risk appetite, and the controls that build trust. Huge thanks to PwC Australia for sponsoring this learning opportunity, and to colleagues who supported me along the eight week journey.

Pete Turnbull liked thisPete Turnbull liked this𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 “𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲” 𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁? In my last post I promised to unpack my AI Adoption framework. Let's start with the hardest one: VALUE. Not "productivity" or "efficiency." Actual, measurable business value. This summarizes the steps I took at ALM, the result proved that it works: taking the company through a successful PE exit, 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 revenue significantly, 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 cost meaningfully, and 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 the user base. Here's what I learned about categorizing and capturing AI value. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀: 🔶 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 made our teams faster, more efficient. We saw wins here, automated workflows, smarter tools. But here's the reality: 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱. At best, you're optimizing expenses, not creating new revenue. 🔶 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗥𝗢𝗜 embedded intelligence into our core products and processes. This is where we saw measurable returns. Real dollars we could track from investment to outcome. 🔶 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 created new products and business models. Highest risk, highest reward. For us, this meant AI-driven intelligence products that became new revenue streams, not just incremental improvements. The turning point came when I stopped reporting "30% faster ticket resolution" and started showing "$20M added through AI-driven products." Same technology. But one gets you a pat on the back. The other gets you a seat at the strategy table. 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗲: Focus 80% of your AI investment on ROI and Strategic Value. That's where AI connects directly to revenue, product differentiation, and financial outcomes that boards actually care about. Employee value is extremely important, but a singular focus on it can be a long, winding road to proving overall business impact. In fact, focusing on ROI and strategic value creates quick wins and measurable success that speed up employee adoption significantly. In my next post, I'll share some practical templates/tools we used, from board-level visuals to prioritization framework. Follow me and stay tuned. What's been your biggest challenge in measuring AI value? Cost savings or revenue generation? #AIStrategy #DigitalTransformation #TechLeadership #AIAdoption

I’ve just published: “Against Prompt Engineering — Why a Model and a Prompt Are Not a System.” ⚠️ The punchline Long prompts (or a “configuration of agents”) won’t give you governance, auditability, or reliability. Systems do. 🧰 What’s inside (5‑minute read) • Why prompt‑only setups are brittle and model‑dependent • Why chaining agents still isn’t a system without architecture and controls • A practical shift: Prompot Engineering → System Engineering • Where LLM agents add flexibility and where traditional software must surround and safeguard them • How to build for safety, scale, and accountability from day one 🧭 Who it’s for Leaders, architects, and teams being asked to “ship an agent” in weeks and anyone trying to turn AI from clever demos into dependable systems. Enterprise to Small Businesses will continue to invest in their IT infrastructure, software and Services if they are to maintain their market relevance. Australian IT spending is on track to exceed A$192.2 billion in 2027, an 8.7% increase on 2026. Infrastructure as a service will be the fastest-growing category, rising 22.1% to A$9.1 billion in 2027, driven largely by AI-optimised IaaS. Software will remain the largest IT spending category, expected to exceed A$68 billion in 2027 as generative AI and agentic AI capabilities are added to cloud platforms. https://lnkd.in/gvSErH_v

QuanticoAustralia | Operational Command for Enterprise Leaders When organisations scale, complexity accelerates. The question is whether your systems scale with it. Most executive teams don’t fail from lack of effort — they fail from fragmented processes, inconsistent reporting, and operational blind spots that quietly erode performance. QuanticoAustralia helps leaders regain Operational Command across three critical domains: • Risk & Governance — Executive grade reporting and compliance alignment • Process Optimisation — Standardised workflows and scalable performance • Enterprise Connectivity — Unified communication and real time decision making The result? Clarity. Control. Confidence. That’s Operational Command — and it’s how enterprise leaders stay ahead. For deeper insight into this pivotal issue — and to understand how QuanticoAustralia strengthens governance, operational assurance, and cross site performance — reach out to me, Paul James, QX GM, on 0412 192 257 for a conversation, supporting material, or executive briefings.
