Train art sources

What each drawing and livery is based on. Geometry (car lengths, heights, bogie centres, door and window positions, nose profiles) comes from the class's Wikipedia infobox for published figures and from Wikimedia Commons side-elevation drawings and photos for everything else, measured in pixels against a published dimension. Liveries are read from recent Commons photos (2023-26 where possible); hex values are photo readings unless noted, so treat them as close rather than exact.

Drawings are stylised: lengths are drawn at 85% against heights, as railway diagrams do, and a flat or raked front is shown as a narrow face beside the side view so its windscreens, gangway and lamps can be seen.

Known gaps

  • 805/807 noses are estimated from 3/4 photos; no side-on view exists.
  • 745, 397 and 318 have no side drawing; layouts are from photos or a sister class (320 for 318).
  • Mk5 sleeper coach: only length and width are published.
  • 319 and 769 reuse the 320 body with a gangway front; 456 reuses the 455; 508 the 507.
  • Liveries in flux in 2026: CrossCountry (Voyagers in the old silver and maroon, 170s in the new red), West Midlands 730s (LNR green drawn; WMR purple-and-orange units exist), Grand Central 180s, TfW 150/153.
  • LM is one ATOC code for both West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern; the drawing picks one livery per class.
