I have been failing to compile Keycloak with 503 Service Unavailable when fetching dependencies with Maven. The error happens for repository.jboss.org. I know this is not the right forum for the problem, but I was unable to find how to contact right people and I was hoping maybe someone here knows who to ping about this problem?

The error I get during compile is:

[ERROR] Plugin org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-compiler-plugin:3.8.1-jboss-1 or one of its dependencies could not be resolved: Failed to read artifact descriptor for org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-compiler-plugin:jar:3.8.1-jboss-1: Could not transfer artifact org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-compiler-plugin:pom:3.8.1-jboss-1 from/to jboss-public-repository (https://repository.jboss.org/nexus/content/groups/public/): transfer failed for https://repository.jboss.org/nexus/content/groups/public/org/apache/maven/plugins/maven-compiler-plugin/3.8.1-jboss-1/maven-compiler-plugin-3.8.1-jboss-1.pom, status: 503 Service Unavailable -> [Help 1]

When trying to download the file with curl for example, I also get that error

I think x-rh-edge-cache-status: Error from child may refer to RedHat edge proxies.

As additional information, I get the same error 503 Service Unavailable if I try to access any resources in the repo, such as this or this but strangely some directory indexes like this work correctly for me.

I have tried downloads with several machines, different clients, during two days now, but I always get the same result.

I'm still having this problem. I cannot build Keycloak at all on machines that do not happen to have the dependencies cached in local maven cache ~/.m2/. This is now third day I cannot compile.

I think I might know what is wrong: Akamai CDN might have cached some bad responses from RedHat's servers.

Evidence: when I check what (akamai edge) servers host repository.jboss.org resolves to, from my network vs a server I have in the USA, I expectedly get different IPs. I can then try to fetch the files directly with those IPs from both locations. Regardless where I run these requests, I get the same behavior

This request succeeds:

curl -v --resolve repository.jboss.org:443:96.7.218.73 https://repository.jboss.org/nexus/content/groups/public/org/apache/maven/plugins/maven-compiler-plugin/3.8.1-jboss-1/maven-compiler-plugin-3.8.1-jboss-1.pom

and this request fails with 503 Service Unavailable and x-rh-edge-cache-status: Error from child

curl -v --resolve repository.jboss.org:443:193.229.109.151 https://repository.jboss.org/nexus/content/groups/public/org/apache/maven/plugins/maven-compiler-plugin/3.8.1-jboss-1/maven-compiler-plugin-3.8.1-jboss-1.pom

Is there anything that can be done to fix this / to get attention of repository.jboss.org maintainers at RedHat? As a workaround, following could be added to /etc/hosts file on the machine(s)

The problem persists after two weeks: Akamai is serving errors for repository.jboss.org. I might have found correct Red Hat tracker to report this in https://issues.redhat.com/browse/NEXUS-613.
