GCCs Evolve with AI: Domain Expertise and Agility Key to Success

From an idea on a whiteboard to a granted patent — a full circle moment. 🏆➡️📜 A few years ago, a small team of us at Accenture were huddled together for the Technology Innovation Contest, pitching an idea we were genuinely excited about: a system that could let backend infrastructure monitor, learn, and adapt on its own. We didn't know then where it would lead. What started as a "New Applied Now" innovation entry went on to win recognition at Accenture's Innovate Everywhere and Epic Innovations events — and more importantly, it planted the seed for something bigger. That idea became "Cognitive and Adaptive Telemetry" — a system that uses predictive models to monitor equipment, generate alerts, and take autonomous corrective action. We filed it as a patent application in 2017, and then with some iterations, reviews, and the belief in the idea, it was granted as US and India Patent. Some reflections from this journey: → Innovation contests aren't just for trophies — they're where real IP often begins. → Patents take patience. Ours took a few years from filing to US grant. Now our patent is granted in India and US → None of this happens solo. Grateful to my co-inventors and the Accenture teams who believed in the idea early and pushed it forward. India GCCs are becoming AI command centers. But the real bottleneck is not AI adoption. It is 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. For years, the India GCC story was built on scale, efficiency, and technology depth. AI is changing that mandate. GCCs are now being asked to design platforms, govern enterprise data, build products, influence decisions, and own business outcomes. That is a very different game. TechCircle recently described this shift as GCCs moving from execution to ownership. But PwC India and FICCI highlight the harder truth: skill and talent gaps could put up to 19.3% of India’s GCC sector value at risk by 2030. And Infosys’ AI-first GCC Index 2026 makes the same point from another angle: AI use is widespread, but meaningful business impact remains elusive for two-thirds of the industry. That is the gap between 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 and 𝗔𝗜 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲. An AI delivery center executes use cases. An AI command center owns outcomes. Virtusa has successfully concluded Season 5 of the Jatayu Ideathon, an initiative bringing together student innovation and enterprise technology. This edition centered on Agentic AI, challenging participants across India to develop solutions for complex, real-world business scenarios. The program engaged 14,500+ engineering students across 2,900+ teams, progressing through three structured evaluation stages. The participants developed ideas across 14 enterprise use cases, culminating in a Grand Finale featuring 27 finalist teams and 116 students.
