Shawn Cheng ha compartido estoShawn Cheng ha compartido estoIn modern America, we're used to big corporations dominating. Amazon and Walmart dominate retail. Citi, Chase, and Bank of America dominate banking. Google dominates search. In most industries, building economies of scale is an effective strategy. It lets companies squeeze out the competition. Stablecoin technology, however, is proving immune to that strategy. Within the banking industry, we've entered a rare moment where scale and legacy have become a hindrance to big banks hoping to dominate the market. In my latest Newsweek op-ed, I explain why stablecoins need a new type of bank. The piece breaks down why big banks will struggle to adjust, and why new players actually hold several key advantages over the incumbents. It's worth a read if you work in finance, invest in banking stocks, or want to understand how stablecoin technology will reshape major industries. Shawn Cheng ha compartido estoShawn Cheng ha compartido estoThere is a special feeling that comes with being at the frontier. The frontier of your craft and your category. That is something I am deeply precious about at Cryptio. We are always pushing the frontier. Now, I know building #backoffice tech isn't as sexy as sending rockets to space like SpaceXAI, but knowing that you understand your problem space in all it's detail, and having the courage and resilience to create a new solution, a new paradigm, that is something we have in common. Cryptio's team is pushing the forefront of how books and records will be kept in the era of #AI and #DigitalAssets. Thank you to our team who continues to push this frontier.

Shawn Cheng ha compartido estoExcited for Systemic Ventures to be supporting a vinyl bar in shibuya, founded by former Spotify Head of Innovation Máuhan M Zonoozy and team!!! 🎸🎹🥁 The company announced its $5.5M pre-seed today, alongside Mantis Venture Capital, SV Angel, BoxGroup, Quiet Capital, Remarkable Ventures, Common Metal, Gold House, Liquid 2 Ventures, Breakers VC, Collaborative Fund and others. What caught our attention is the team’s perspective on where music goes next. Streaming solved access. Generative AI is making creation dramatically easier and content increasingly abundant. But that makes human taste, participation and interaction more—not less—important. A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya is building around that idea: playful products that let people interact with sound, remix music and create together, including bop, Stacks, Drops, Speed Surfer and more. We believe some of the most interesting consumer companies will emerge where AI expands what’s possible without removing the human creativity that makes the experience valuable in the first place. Máuhan has spent years at the intersection of music, technology and product, and we’re thrilled to support him and the team as they build. Congratulations to Máuhan and the entire A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya team. 🎶 Read more in TechCrunch: https://lnkd.in/dTEjF-ZRShawn Cheng ha compartido esto🚀 we raised a pre-seed round to design the future of music. :-) i started a vinyl bar in shibuya to design music products for the “post-streaming” era. i was (and remain) super inspired by what’s happening in music tech, AI, and gaming, and believe the “next spotify” will be found at the convergence of the three. if you know me, you know that i also really like toys and instruments. we’ve leveraged the two as our design principles in creating new interfaces for people to express themselves creatively with music. “musicking” as we like to call it. we’ve been fortunate to find partners equally excited about this future. we’re proud to officially announce (via TechCrunch) that we have the world’s best investors along for the ride. s/o to our fam at RRE Ventures, SV Angel, BoxGroup, Liquid 2 Ventures, Quiet Capital, Gold House, Common Metal, Avex Music Group, Systemic Ventures, Remarkable Ventures, Breakers, Mantis Venture Capital, and Collaborative Fund for your guidance, support, and belief. a vinyl bar in shibuya. we’re a music (software) label designing the future of music. lfg. Shawn Cheng ha compartido estoShawn Cheng ha compartido estoAI agents need access to bank accounts and wallets with money in them. That's usually yours. We made it safe to give them access. Today we're releasing Payman Connect, which gives AI agents access to a person's bank account or wallet to send money, pay bills, and more, all under Payman's security. And we're opening it up to developers. We've spent two years working with banks to make it safe to deploy AI agents that touch money. Along the way we launched the first AI agents at banks that are actively moving money for consumers. The hard part was never the rails. It was answering governance, auditing, and liability for the institutions doing the moving. Now we're opening up the system that made that possible. Here's what Connect does. • You drop a connect button into your app • Your user logs into Payman, picks their bank or crypto wallet, and grants your agent access • Your agent never sees the account, never builds guardrails or audit trails, and never carries the liability • When money needs to move, your agent asks in plain language and the SDK does the rest This one is personal. I started Payman because an AI and money project I was building got killed by exactly this problem. We've been obsessed with making sure developers never hit that wall. I think you'll feel the work in Connect. We're onboarding developers fast and adding banking providers. Sign up at the link in the comment or DM me. There's never been a better time to give your agents access to money and make people's lives easier.

Shawn Cheng ha recomendado estoShawn Cheng ha recomendado estoWe gave 9 agents $100 and sent them to market - and they acted in some weird and wonderful ways. They copied each other's accents. They pressured one another into breaking price floors. And when negotiations ended, they kept thanking each other until they ran out of tokens. We built a marketplace to study what happens when agents stop working toward one shared goal and start acting as counterparties, representing different people with different preferences and incentives. Across 81 experimental runs plus one final run, the agents exchanged 15,358 messages, closed 1,815 deals, and simulated $66,321 in transactions. A few things surprised us: > Closed source models didn't always beat open source; flagship models didn't always beat budget. Fit mattered: some models optimized deal volume; others stayed more disciplined on price. > Culture emerged quickly. We instructed one agent to talk like a cowboy. Soon, other agents were doing it too. Catchphrases, philosophies, and norms spread through the market even when no one had asked for them. > Our agents could sometimes be excessively polite. Long after negotiations ended, they continued to thank each other and send positive encouragement, over, and over, and over. Perhaps that's just what you do when you're not limited on time or bandwidth! Our key conclusion: agents in community develop their own culture and language, quickly. They absorb one another's language, norms, and tactics, then begin shaping each other's behavior. That means we cannot evaluate agent behavior only one agent at a time. Any environment where agents interact needs observability and containment designed from the start. Our simulated marketplace was but a small foray into developing an agent-only society, and with very low stakes. But even in this small space, we found emergent and unexpected behavior, and we are clearly in very early days of understanding agentic behavior. Agents are not hard-coded automatons; they are designed to interpret and act, and will undoubtedly continue to surprise us. Full experiment, results, and repo in the post. Check it out on the Flybridge website; link is in the comments. Many, many thanks to our terrific summer MBA associate Claudia C. for working with me on this and pushing this research forward!

Shawn Cheng ha recomendado estoBig congratulations to the AI-R Studio team from Mexico City for winning the Higgsfield AI Adathon contest at ADWEEK's Brandweek in Atlanta!!!Shawn Cheng ha recomendado estoAt ADWEEK Brandweek in Atlanta, Higgsfield co-founder Mahi de Silva and Adathon judge Michael Ventura sat down with Zoe Ruderman of ADWEEK to talk about how "Don’t Kill the AI Stars" came together. Joining them was the Adathon winning team from Mexico City’s AI-R Studio of PicoLove. Alexander León Rasetti Bernardo Orduña Diego Morales De La Mora The team said they spent the most time finalizing the idea. Their starting point was simple: everyone loves to hate AI, so why not have some fun with it? The team said that AI is a new creative language, one that lets them experiment and take an idea somewhere they might not have been able to before. But getting the film to its final form still took another week of choices, refinement and craft. Michael captured why it worked: as a viewer, you’re in on the joke. The technology opened up what the team could make, and their storytelling made it worth watching. Congratulations to the team! 🏆 More from the conversation soon, including video.

Shawn Cheng ha recomendado estoShawn Cheng ha recomendado estoExcited to return to Slush! 🇪🇺 Last year, John Hanke, Pim de Witte, and I took the main stage to make the case for world models. At the time, the concept was still relatively unfamiliar outside a small part of the AI community. A lot has changed since. World models have become one of the most-funded frontiers in AI, with growing conviction that language alone may not be enough to build general intelligence. This time, I’m returning to the same stage with Richard Socher to explore an idea that feels like it may be approaching a similar inflection point: recursive self-improvement. The connection between the two is deeper than it might initially appear. Both borrow something fundamental from human intelligence that our dominant machine-learning paradigms largely abstract away. World models recognize that we don't learn about reality primarily by reading abstract and lossy descriptions of it. We perceive the world, act within it, observe consequences, and build models from experience. Self-improvement acknowledges that human intelligence isn't static either. Unlike a released model, we continue to learn, adapt, improve our methods, and, in the broadest sense, evolve. Building autonomous systems that can iteratively progress toward knowledge discovery without human intervention, and in a safe manner, is the focus of Recursive. Richard and I will discuss the full spectrum of autonomy, well beyond "models writing much of the next model's code." How can a model improve its parameters through training, learn from its own outputs and actions, evaluate and reward its own performance, and even modify aspects of its own architecture and learning process? See you in Europe.

We are excited to announce that MFV Partners and Harper Court Ventures have invested in CavilinQ's $8.8M seed round to build the interconnect layer for scalable quantum computing. I first met Shankar G Menon over a year ago, before CavilinQ even existed as a company. Since then, I've spent time with him in the labs, watching the idea take shape and learning about the technical approach. What stands out is Shankar's clarity of vision, his conviction in the technology, his maturity as a founder, and his willingness to learn and adapt as the company has come together. MFV's quantum journey started with our investment in PsiQuantum at the core of quantum computing. Since then, we've been looking for opportunities in the higher layers of the stack needed to make quantum computing practical at scale. CavilinQ sits squarely in that thesis — they are building cavity-enhanced photonic links that connect isolated quantum processors into modular, high-performance clusters. This is the networking infrastructure the quantum ecosystem will need as processors continue to advance. The technology builds on foundational research by Prof. Misha Lukin at Harvard and Prof. Hannes Bernien at UChicago, two of the leading researchers in light-matter interfaces. We're pleased to be working alongside Misha and the scientific team as CavilinQ moves to commercialize their technology. We're also glad to partner with QVT, Safar Partners (a co-investor with us in Agility Robotics), and Serendipity Capital. Congratulations to Shankar and the CavilinQ team. We look forward to being part of their exciting journey!

Every #VentureStudio GP knows some portfolio bets won’t hit. That's expected - and it's one of the reasons studios are such a powerful vehicle for innovation. And while a venture's failure might be what's visible to the outsider, what keeps them up at night isn’t failure at the venture level — it’s failure at the systemic level within the studio. One bad entity design. One IP misstep. One governance gap. That’s how studio operations fall apart. We break down how to spot (and fix) these cracks before they turn into fault lines in our latest paper, "The GP Dilemma" - DM me and I'll send you a copy!

What do creative technologists build? At Baukunst, we’ve spent the last few years answering that question in real time. We are a collective of builders — operators, designers, engineers, and investors — committed to advancing the art of building at the frontiers of technology and design. We lead pre-seed rounds with conviction, often as the first institutional capital a founder takes, and we invest deeply in the messy, magical early days of company creation. This deck is the portfolio behind that philosophy, or rather that portfolio that has grown up out of it. We have chosen to champion these companies, and they chosen to co-create with us. These are companies built by creative technologists, founders who think in systems, design for real people, and push beyond the familiar.
