“Jiovanie, or "Jio" as we called him, is an extremely capable game artist with a very broad set of practical expertise in video game asset creation, and he's someone that can take up a position of leadership in a group or team to get the really tough jobs done. As a programmer and engineer, I had the pleasure of working quite closely with Jio in production and developed a huge appreciation for his talents, creativity and perspective on game development and art. I dare say that Jio even showed me some art and asset creation techniques for games that I'd never seen or even thought about before! I still keep in mind some great tricks and tips he showed me which can make models, materials and textures more compact and efficient without losing fidelity or quality. I also feel like we formed a good rapport and built a strong channel of communication about our project quite easily and naturally, and he was definitely able to understand complex technical issues discovered by the engineering team and then make actionable plans to solve them. He understands the nuances and complexities involved in production that you can only gain from a lot of experience: such as streamlining workflows, setting up efficient creative pipelines for a team, how to make effective use of the team's artistic talent and resources and even managing production tickets and tasks to reach project milestones. Jio trained and mentored junior artists and animators, some of whom were experiencing production in a professional role for their first time ever, worked on art direction and the creative vision of the projects, explored and researched new tools and techniques we hadn't used before and somehow he still managed to make lots and lots of high-quality 3D and 2D artwork for the project on his own. I really came to respect his ability to handle some very large workloads and tight deadlines and still deliver on what was required in a short frame of time. This is someone that I feel very lucky to have worked with and picked up some new things from, and I hope I will get to do some more great things with him again someday!”
