Deborah Horn reposted thisDeborah Horn reposted thisThe Space Development Agency (SDA) today announced the award of four prototype agreements, with a total value of approximately $3.5 billion, to Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Rocket Lab, and L3Harris Technologies, to build 72 Tracking Layer satellites to proliferate missile warning/missile tracking infrared sensors along with missile warning, tracking, and defense sensors in support of Tracking Layer Tranche 3 (TRKT3) of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture. The TRKT3, organized across eight orbital planes, builds upon SDA’s previous generations, Tranche 1 and Tranche 2, by expanding and enhancing coverage to provide global, persistent indication, detection, warning, tracking, and identification of conventional and advanced missile threats, including hypersonic missile systems. Each SV is equipped with an IR mission payload, optical communication terminals (OCTs), and Ka-band communications payloads as well as an S-band backup telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) system. Commenting, Eutelsat Group Chief Operations Officer, Massimiliano Ladovaz, said: “We are proud to have partnered with Airbus in this joint venture which has assured the successful build of OneWeb’s First Generation constellation, and we are confident the business will continue to thrive by addressing the growing demand for small sats, with a best-in-class, competitive offer. “Looking ahead, Eutelsat Group will benefit from being able to call on a more diversified range of suppliers for its future in-orbit needs, including Airbus which remains one of our most trusted partners.”

Speaking at the Ohio Space Forum in downtown Cleveland, Guetlein said the first phase (or “Epic 1”) will be focused on deterring a coercive decapitation strike and a rogue nation attack on the homeland by 2028. I'm thrilled to announce that I'm joining the team at the Space Development Agency and the newly-established Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Missile Warning and Tracking (PAE MWT) in the United States Space Force. As a Senior Advisor, I'll be helping solve some of our most challenging Supply Chain and Industrial Base growth and resilience issues, to help ensure that state-of-the-market capabilities are delivered to the warfighter on relevant timelines. I'll have more to say in near future, but I'm looking forward to working with many of my colleagues and friends across the Department and industry, and I'm grateful for the support and confidence of Gurpartap "GP" Sandhoo and Heather Campbell! The award confirms Aerospacelab as a key Prime Contractor for the IRIS² LEO segment, following a competitive dialogue with Eutelsat, member of the SpaceRISE consortium (alongside Hispasat and led by SES Satellites). We will design, produce, and deliver 264 fully integrated satellites that will form the backbone of Europe's sovereign, secure connectivity infrastructure by 2030. So it was a real treat to have FUN with Jon Meadows while getting new headshots! I not only left with great pictures, but some life wisdom as well (evidently I should never trust a man who doesn't like mangoes!). It was a great afternoon!

The CSA's Space Technology Development Program (STDP) aims to strengthen industrial capabilities (new concepts, products and/or know-how) related to basic R&D of space technologies (space application segment). The following activities are not eligible as they are or will be supported through other funding opportunities: Applications related to developing earth observation data processing solutions, eligible through CSA's smartEarth initiative. Development of space-related medical technologies. Development of prospecting and In Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) related technologies. Development of space-related food production technologies. Development of space-related life support systems. Technologies already funded by CSA through another contract, contribution, or grant. Projects aiming at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) higher than TRL-6 are not eligible.
