Nathan Scharfe reposted thisNathan Scharfe reposted thisAs I scale to tackle bigger and bigger problems at Snowflake, I'm hiring for one of the most important roles I'll fill this year. I'm looking for an Engineering Manager or TLM to lead our Pipeline Authoring team in Bellevue. Data engineering is roughly 40% of Snowflake's revenue, and this team is the front door to almost all of it. If it's where an engineer writes, runs, or ships a pipeline, this team owns, operates, or is one of the heaviest contributors to it. Whoever takes this on inherits some of the best engineers I've ever hired - 10 folks (a mix of seniority and tenure) with a track record of shipping 14 products from 0-1 or 1-100 over the last 4.5 years. We're currently deep into dbt Projects (GA), DCM (newly GA!), and Pipeline Builder, our answer to visual pipeline orchestration and one of the bigger launches coming later this summer. In addition to owning some of the fastest growing products in the company, the team is on the bleeding edge of agentic development at Snowflake. We've literally built core frameworks the rest of the company uses to build Cortex Code, and the engineers are some of the most prolific people internally pushing on what agents can actually do. This role means handing off a core part of my org to someone I have to trust completely. Trust to grow the engineers who are already here. Trust to keep pushing a multi-year roadmap that WE created. Trust to represent this team well across a company where we touch everything from UX down to the SQL compiler. I'm looking for someone who wants to build something real, who leads by getting their hands dirty (i.e., uses our products, writes code, sits with customers) and who's excited to bet on Autonomous Data Engineering as the future of how data engineers work. If you've got 3-5+ years leading technical teams, real product instincts, and you want to run one of the fastest-growing parts of Snowflake alongside a team that already knows how to ship, I'd be excited to chat. Nathan Scharfe shared thisWelcome Aria Attar, Biraj Silwal and team! 🚀 It’s been incredible to see how the TensorStax team has accelerated the development of Cortex Code.Nathan Scharfe shared thisWelcome Aria Attar, Biraj Silwal and TensorStax to Snowflake! At Snowflake, we are super excited by how AI and coding agents are completely reimagining data engineering, data pipeline building and the act of working with data. When we first met Aria Attar and Biraj Silwal over dinner a few months back, it was clear we had mind-meld over the future of data and AI. These guys are builders' builders and have great product sense for how to iterate on AI products for data. Today, we are announcing TensorStax joining forces with Snowflake. The tooling that the TensorStax team built to make AI coding agents incredible at data engineering is now live at Snowflake as part of the Cortex Code product, which launched to GA yesterday. Nathan Scharfe liked thisNathan Scharfe liked thisI'll be in Toronto on Sep 29 for Snowflake World Tour, giving the keynote on making AI real for business. Real means past the demo. It means AI that still works once it meets your actual data, your team's workflows, and the systems you already have. I'm sharing the stage with Rupinder Dhillon from Sobeys, who has led AI work inside a business at that scale, and my Snowflake colleagues Shannon Katschilo, Sébastien Notebaert, and Nav Anand who will walk through amazing things we are building with our customers in Canada. If you're in the middle of an AI project right now, come find me after the session. I'd like to hear what's working, what's stuck, and where another set of eyes might help. Nathan Scharfe liked thisNathan Scharfe liked thisToday we're launching Phave, and for me it's a full-circle moment. In 2011 I joined Marketo. I saw how powerful marketing automation could be, and how much of it ran on rules that someone had to write by hand. After Marketo, I built B2B software for HR, Ad tech, studio operations, and data at SuccessFactors, Google, Netflix, and Snowflake. For the past year I've been a founding engineer at Phave. I'm building what comes next with Jon Miller and Nick Bonfiglio two of the people who built Marketo. Phave reasons instead of hand crafted rules. It looks at what it knows about each person, their account, and their buying group, and then decides what should happen next. You describe what you want in plain language, and Phave works out the rest. At Netflix I saw what personalization at scale looks like. Phave brings that to B2B. Every person gets their own plan of touches, and Phave checks everything across your campaigns before anything goes out. Fifteen enterprise development partners helped us build it. Teams at SambaNova, SPS Commerce, Telarus, mabl, Servion, and Hypha already use it. Thanks to Jon, Nick, and the whole team. If you're on Marketo, HubSpot, Pardot, or Eloqua, take a look: https://phave.com/demo Today (September 29), Jon and Scott Brinker of chiefmartec are hosting our launch event. Come join us. #Phave #MarketingAutomation #AI #ProductLaunch #FullCircle

Nathan Scharfe liked thisSharing a few things I’ve learned building CoCo at Snowflake: get ideas into users’ hands early, stay grounded in real customer needs, and build AI into your development workflow so you and the people around you can move faster and deliver better quality. Thanks for featuring me, Kelly Estrada Myles Marquez Aubriana Muna !Nathan Scharfe liked thisRedefining employer branding in the AI era requires you to be social-first, contemporary, and AI-native. To do things different. To build workflows, skills, agents, and campaigns without a playbook. At Snowflake, that means moving fast, jumping on trends (and setting new ones), and creating content that actually speaks the language of the talent we’re trying to hire. So naturally, we created a new term… CoComaxxing 🧑💻 Co•Co•max•xing (verb): The practice of leveraging Snowflake CoCo to accelerate your career in enterprise AI. Mostly used by builders of the AI era. We teamed up with the Principal Engineer who built CoCo Desktop (from zero customers to GA, NBD) to drop the tips on how engineers can CoComaxx their way into the destination for AI era talent. Goodbye traditional EB playbook. Hello deep persona alignment 🤝 social-first execution. Nathan Scharfe liked thisIt's been incredible to see Pam's growth just in the past couple of months. Recalls is becoming more and more important to bring customers into dealerships, minimize risk for fleet and to reduce unsafe cars on the road. We're proud to serve Pam and other customers to achieve those goals, reach out to the rightful owners and bring vehicles that actually need to be serviced in. All of this is possible today with our API suite. If any of this sounds interesting to your business don't hesitate to contact us and if you want to try before you buy that's fine too -- all of our customer can access our self serve sandbox on our website.Nathan Scharfe liked thisA quarter of a million recall checks a month. Inside the AI agents. Pam runs receptionist + outbound agents across 800+ dealership rooftops. Every vehicle those agents touch gets checked for open safety recalls — on CarsXE. Outbound: continuous monitoring so the call list is “open recall right now,” not a stale export. Inbound: lookup during the call, book the recall alongside whatever they dialed about. 16× growth in recall lookups between May and July 2026. Almost every CarsXE call Pam makes is recall data. In their CEO’s words: “When a customer calls a dealership, we know they have an open recall instantly. That changes what the call is worth.”

Nathan Scharfe liked thisWe're super excited to have Chris on board! He's joined us as Head of GTM, and he already knows CarsXE from the other side of the table -- customer-turned-colleague is the best kind of conviction. I couldn't agree more with his thesis, in the AI era, software is getting cheap to build, but you still need the data underneath it to power it and take decisions. That's exactly what we're here for -- and what Chris will be helping more builders across dealerships, automotive SaaS, insurance, fleet, and repair discover. As he mentioned AE and SDR roles open, DM him if that sounds like you. Welcome aboard, Chris! 🚀Nathan Scharfe liked thisI've been at CarsXE for over a month now as Head of GTM, and I wanted to share how I got here... I first came across CarsXE at my last company while we were building AI agents for dealerships. We needed more data to power those agents, so we partnered with CarsXE for their recall data. That's when I realized they weren't just solid on recalls. They had one of the most expansive vehicle data platforms out there, 12+ endpoints under one API. I spent half my summer freelancing, interviewing, and trying to figure out what I wanted to do next. AI is disrupting everything, and I kept wondering where value is actually being created and how to position myself for what's next. Then Abraham, CarsXE's founder and CEO, reached out just to catch up. We got talking about what a crazy time it is to be building, tinkering, "vibe coding," and I realized that a data company is in the best position to win in this new era. With tools like Claude Code and Lovable, the cost and knowledge gap to build software is disappearing. But AI alone can't build what you actually need. You still need data. CarsXE has a ton of it, serving dealerships, automotive SaaS companies, insurance, fleet, and repair shops. That's what sold me. So I joined as Head of GTM, and I'm already hiring to expand our GTM team with an AE and SDR (DM me if you're interested). There's no shortage of people building for the automotive industry, and not just for dealerships. There are so many businesses built around vehicles that people rely on every day. What sets us apart isn't just the quality and breadth of our data, it's how fast you can get access. No months-long sales and legal back and forth, no red tape, just integrate and go. I'm excited to help more builders discover CarsXE, and see what we build together.

Nathan Scharfe liked thisNathan Scharfe liked thisAnd Snowflake does it again!! Today, we reported $1.49 billion in product revenue, up 37% YoY and our third consecutive quarter of accelerating growth. The opportunity ahead of us is unlike anything I’ve seen. Customer conversations are shifting as the urgency grows to put AI to work. They're modernizing their data estates, introducing CoCo and CoWork to entirely new groups of users, and bringing critical work to Snowflake because they understand that the Agentic Enterprise runs on Snowflake. But these results don’t happen without a team that knows how to execute. Huge kudos to our global Field organization and to every Snowflake working alongside them. You stayed close to customers, moved with urgency and delivered. A massive quarter -- and the best is yet to come! ❄️

Nathan Scharfe liked thisNathan Scharfe liked this🥂 This week we hosted the Summer edition of the Citizens For Startups Founder Saloon, featuring Matthew Brezina. Matt — serial entrepreneur and investor in 150+ startups including Dropbox and Ring — sat down for a fireside chat on one of the toughest questions every founder faces: how do you build the right team, and when is the right time to bring on venture capital? A few things that stuck with me: 🔹 The first hires you make shape your company's trajectory more than almost any other early decision 🔹 Raising capital isn't a milestone — it's a tool, and timing matters more than size 🔹 The most common mistake founders make? Taking money from the wrong investors just because they need to grow the business Special thanks to Jai Nagarajan and the Deel team for co-sponsoring the event. If you're interested in attending the next Founder Saloon or other events by Citizens Private Bank, drop me a comment or DM! Safa Aliabadi, Alex Kearns, Garret Spiecker, Gregg Hipwell

SaaS businesses have one critical baked-in assumption: The marginal cost of another user was close to zero. LLMs are breaking that assumption. In a traditional SaaS model, you paid for infrastructure in chunks. As long as usage stayed within those bounds, an extra user barely moved the needle. Margins improved as you grew. When LLMs become part of the product experience, that logic changes. Costs stop being mostly fixed and start becoming interaction-based. 👉 Every prompt. 👉 Every completion. 👉 Every background agent action. 👉 Every “helpful” suggestion. Each one carries a real, incremental cost. That shifts the economics in ways many SaaS teams haven’t fully internalised yet. In an LLM-driven product: 📈 Costs scale with usage intensity, not just user count 👥 Heavy users are materially more expensive than light users 🏃♂️ The link between “active user” and “profitable user” gets fuzzy Two customers on the same plan can now have very different cost profiles, purely based on how they use the AI-powered parts of the product. This creates pressure in unfamiliar places: ❗Pricing models built on uniform usage assumptions ❗“Unlimited” plans that quietly become loss-making ❗Features users love but finance worries about ❗Growth that increases revenue and cost at the same time None of this is an argument against using LLMs. But it is a reason to revisit some deeply embedded assumptions. AI features aren’t “just another feature”. Usage, value, and cost no longer move together. Pricing and product design are now tightly coupled to model economics. The companies that struggle won’t be the ones adopting LLMs. They’ll be the ones still pricing as if marginal cost is zero. When it isn’t. This shift doesn’t usually hurt immediately. It shows up later: 👊 in margin surprises 👊 in awkward pricing changes 👊 in “why is this customer unprofitable?” conversations So here’s the question I keep coming back to: If usage now drives cost, how should pricing evolve to reflect that? Especially where customers want price predicability?

Celebrating RadiantOps coming out of stealth today 🎉 It's been an honor to work with Travis Kimmel and RadiantOps team these past two years as they build for the future state of engineering visibility: pulling together code, tickets, Slack, and agent runs into one real view of what's happening on a team, what's actually stuck in review, where the AI spend is going + the quiet wins that never make it into a dashboard. This is the kind of AI-native, holistic observability engineering leaders and R&D heads keep telling me they need.
