We are proud to share the news that Joe Levy, director of research at HBHI, has been awarded a five-year NIH R01 from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) to study how GLP-1s affect healthcare spending. Existing studies have monitored patients for one or two years and found only limited cost savings on a patient’s other healthcare. Whether that holds up over a longer stretch is the open question for insurers and policymakers weighing coverage. Joe's team will use Truveta to link health records to insurance claims covering more than 140 million patients, tracking spending for five years after people start treatment and longer where the data allow. They'll also look at which patients benefit most and at what price these drugs break even for a payer.
