About us

The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and mental health organization for LGBTQ+ young people. The organization works to save young lives by providing support through free and confidential suicide prevention and crisis intervention programs on platforms where young people spend their time: our 24/7 phone lifeline, chat, text and soon-to-come integrations with social media platforms. We also run TrevorSpace, the world’s largest safe space social networking site for LGBTQ youth, and operate innovative education, research, and advocacy programs. • On Tuesday, the City of West Hollywood honored The Trevor Project with a proclamation recognizing our longstanding commitment to suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ young people. Our Vice President of Marketing and Content, Nolan Scott, was at the City Council meeting to accept the award. We receive this recognition with gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose. After our founding nearly 30 years ago in West Hollywood, returning to this city reminds us of why we began The Trevor Project. Every young trans person deserves to know that their life matters. Every young queer person deserves to know that their bright future is a possibility, and that they don’t have to face a moment of crisis alone. For decades, LGBTQ+ young people have turned to The Trevor Project in some of their hardest, most challenging moments. Behind every call, text, and chat is a young person choosing to reach for connection, and a community choosing to answer. During this National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, we’re grateful to the City of West Hollywood and Vice Mayor Danny Hang for recognizing this work. We’re committed to continuing it: Building a world where LGBTQ+ young people can heal and thrive in peace. There is always more work to do. We’ll always be here, doing it in the service of our young people. 🧡

  • Content warning: This post discusses suicide and suicide attempts. Please take care of yourself while reading. 🧡 If you’re an LGBTQ+ young person who has struggled with thoughts of suicide, attempted suicide, or supported someone who has: You are not a statistic. Our new research at The Trevor Project helps us better understand suicide attempts among LGBTQ+ young people, including the circumstances surrounding attempts and where gaps in care still exist. An important reminder: Talking openly about suicide does not put the idea in someone’s head. Research like this helps us understand where prevention and support can do more, so we can build systems that meet LGBTQ+ young people with care before, during, and after a crisis. Compassionate care matters. No one should have to navigate these experiences alone. If you’re struggling right now, please remember: You deserve to be here. You deserve to be supported. You don’t have to figure everything out alone. We’re always here, 24/7/365, free and secure. Call us 1-866-488-7386, text ‘START’ to 678-678, or visit https://lnkd.in/g49FBHrc to chat right now. Read more of our research at trvr.org/Research … because data makes a difference.

  • It’s a text that says “thinking of you.” It’s a teacher who gently reminds someone of your correct pronouns. It's a chosen family. It's a community. It’s a space where you can finally exhale. Suicide prevention is everyday connection. While connection doesn’t erase pain, knowing that there are people who truly see us and want us here can help us to remember that pain is not the entirety of our story. For LGBTQ+ young people, belonging in community matters. Inclusion matters. Suicide prevention looks like building more places where everyone knows they belong. If you or someone you know is struggling or thinking about suicide, The Trevor Project is available to support you 24/7/365, free and secure. Call 1-866-488-386, text ‘START’ to 678-678 or visit trvr.org/Help to connect to a trained counselor right now. You belong here. We mean it. 🧡

“You are not confused, you are not too much, and you are never not queer enough.” 🩷💜💙 This message from Dr. Varuna Srinivasan (expert physician, writer, and proud bisexual woman) is an important reminder this Bi+ Awareness Week: You were never made to fit into boxes not built for you. You were never meant to live by a narrative not written for you. You were never expected to navigate anything alone. This Bi+ Awareness Week, let Dr. Varuna be a testament: There is an entire world of beautiful people waiting to celebrate you in your full uniqueness. We’re here to celebrate you, too. If you need support this Bi+ Awareness Week, or anytime in the future, you can call The Trevor Project at 1-866-488-7386, text ‘START’ to 678-678, or visit https://lnkd.in/gzM-_DYY to reach a trained counselor, anytime, free and secure. 🧡 Happy Bi+ Week, friends!

  • We asked, you answered. 🩷💜💙 This Bisexual+ Awareness Week, we asked our community of bi+ icons to share anecdotes about bi+ identity and tips for figuring things out. We learned that bi+ joy looks different for everyone. We learned that love and relationships can be complicated and nuanced. We learned that terms and labels can be both helpful and restricting. We learned that showing up looks tangible and actionable. As we continue to learn from you, we’ll continue to share your words and amplify your perspectives on our platforms, because the experiences of bi+ folks deserve to be heard and documented. You deserve to be celebrated every day of the year. You deserve to be known in the fullness of who you are. 🧡

  • This National Voter Registration Day, take the opportunity to make a difference at the polls this November and beyond. Politics start local, and having your vote counted in your community is a great place to start. LGBTQ+ youth voices and votes impact the landscape of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation across the country: how we respond to it, and how we prevent it. 🧡 Check your voter registration status and find your polling place now at Vote.org 🔗

  • Sometimes, we want to promise someone that everything will be okay tomorrow. But when someone is hurting, they may need someone willing to be with them through today. Suicide prevention can happen in the space between “I don’t know what to do” and “I’m here with you.” You don’t have to fix someone’s pain to help them feel less alone in it. Prevention looks like staying. Sitting beside them. Checking in again. Answering the phone. Asking instead of assuming. Reminding them that they matter. Staying connected, even when the conversation is hard. If you or someone you know is struggling or thinking about suicide, The Trevor Project is available to support you 24/7/365, free and secure. Call 1-866-488-386, text ‘START’ to 678-678 or visit https://lnkd.in/ge-BKDDC to connect to a trained counselor right now. We are always here for you. 🧡

  • Breanna grew up being free to express herself without fear. The vibrancy of her family and support from her local community inspired Breanna to explore her sexual orientation and gender identity, and embrace her role in a larger collective. With help from her Dad, making beautiful, special outfits for Pride events sparked joy in Breanna that she had to follow. Now, she attends Pride every year, and always expresses herself to the fullest. This Latinx Heritage Month, Breanna reminds us that every story deserves to be heard, and every person deserves to express who they are as their full, authentic selves 🧡
