The Board of Peace’s policy as it relates to UNRWA’s involvement in Gaza is unchanged. We will only work with trusted partners who will deliver for the people of Gaza and contribute to a deradicalized Strip. UNRWA fails on those litmus tests. “A year ago, none of this existed. We didn’t have the conflict resolved. The Board of Peace didn’t exist. Nobody knew what the International Stabilization Force was because it didn’t exist. And there was no National Committee for Gaza because it didn’t exist. What you have seen is almost like the building of a really big start-up. The effort that has been put into this by all these great partners, who are doing this out of the goodness of their hearts and their passion to see peace and real progress, they could have built a massive company with the sophistication and effort that has gone into this. But I think we are building something way more important than a company. We are building something that is a platform to enable the Palestinian people in Gaza to finally focus on improving their livelihoods and improving their lives, and for those who want to live in peace to give them a chance to do so. Hopefully this will show the Israelis that there is hope for peace and coexistence. But we realized on our first day doing this that the concept of trust did not exist. As President Trump stated, extraordinary progress has been made in just one year: a ceasefire that ended large-scale war; the return of all living hostages and the remains of the deceased; historic increases in humanitarian aid and improved nutrition across Gaza; and a roadmap to demilitarize, deradicalize, and rebuild Gaza, which will enable a future of peace and prosperity for Palestinians, and lasting security for the people of Israel. Our mission is hard, and the work ahead will not be easy. The Board of Peace deeply appreciates the growing support of governments, international organizations, and partners for President Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict and the Roadmap for its implementation. As world leaders gather in New York for the UN General Assembly, it is important to reaffirm our shared objectives: a demilitarized and deradicalized Gaza; immediate and sustained humanitarian assistance, recovery, and reconstruction for the people of Gaza; effective Palestinian civilian and security administration; and lasting security for Palestinians and Israelis. Nearly one year ago, President Trump’s Plan set in motion a new path for Gaza. It secured the release and return of all Israeli hostages and brought regional and international leaders together at the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh. Those milestones paved the way for UN Security Council Resolution 2803, the establishment of the Board of Peace, the formation of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, and preparations for the deployment of the International Stabilization Force. On July 30, agreement was reached with Hamas on a detailed Roadmap for implementing the next stages of the ceasefire. It provides a practical and internationally supported path toward demilitarization and deradicalization, Israeli withdrawal, effective Palestinian civilian and security administration, and reconstruction. The political choice is now clear. All parties must fulfil their commitments and refrain from actions that could undermine the ceasefire or return Gaza to conflict. International partners must turn political support into practical commitments. UNGA provides an opportunity to consolidate the international community behind one agreed framework, and to demonstrate that diplomacy can deliver lasting peace, security and a better future for Palestinians and Israelis. https://lnkd.in/e7V6TbY7
