Changing lives through offender rehabilitation, residential support, and food redistribution

About us

We are a unique charity, delivering programmes which reduce reoffending, tackle homelessness and feed communities. Our offender rehabilitation programme delivers unrivalled results, reducing reoffending rates to less than 5%. Our workshops and partner employers offer training and employment opportunities for ex-offenders to develop skills and secure full-time work ready for release. We also offer wrap-around support for men and women to secure stable housing, manage finances, rebuild relationships and more. Our residential programme supports men experiencing homelessness. Our facility offers safe, supportive accommodation from which men receive personal support and undertake training and work placements. Developing their skills, confidence and resilience, residents then move into work and their own home. Working in partnership with FareShare we feed communities across Lancashire and Cumbria. Our Food Redistribution Centre takes surplus stock from supermarkets and suppliers, redistributing it to community groups, charities and schools to help them to feed vulnerable communities. Together, we're Recycling Lives. VACANCIES - View our latest job opportunities here: www.recyclinglives.org/news/vacancies/

£24.2m - or priceless. It depends how you look at it really, but either way, that's the value we create here... We're so proud to share this figure and much more with you in our latest Impact Report. If you're interested in the numbers, have a read on how we've created savings for the taxpayer, by reducing reoffending and unemployment, and preventing homelessness, and created value for our communities, by getting food out to people in need, supporting people into work, and so much more. And if (like us 💚) you're interested in people, there's plenty of personal stories in the Report too - Naomi's no-nonsense chat, Jimmy's reflections, Paul's learnings... It's all here: https://lnkd.in/e4GymgUw Please share far and wide, too 🙏 Help us to reach our next employer partner, sponsor, volunteer or even participant 💚

Amazing to have the High Sherrif and Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire both come and visit our work this week. A real boost for all of the team and participants who met them and wonderful to hear their great feedback.

This week we were honoured to welcome two important visitors to Recycling Lives Charity, the High Sheriff and the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire. It was a pleasure to showcase our work and share our mission to reduce homelessness, tackle reoffending, and combat food poverty through our charity and social enterprise initiatives. Our visitors visited our residential service, community café, and even learned about our ‘Suppers Up’ project that provides meals for up to 200 people every week. A huge thank you to the High Sheriff and Lord Lieutenant for the kind words and recognition of the hard work put in by our incredible staff, volunteers, and participants. https://lnkd.in/eHmbcdN9

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐲 ❤️ What a great day at HMP Sudbury - it’s been such an eye opening experience to learn about the fantastic things that Recycling Lives Charity are doing and contributing to their work! Today, I had the privilege of working closing with some of the prisoners, helping them prepare for life on the outside by conducting mock interviews and reviewing their CVs 📝 One of the men had never had a proper interview before and was very nervous, but left the session feeling ready to apply and interview for some opportunities within the prison! 🙌🏻 It was great to see how enthusiastic the men were about building on their experiences and learning new trades 👨🔧 and I’ve enjoyed being a part of the initiatives in place to help support prisoners with their transition to release! This! 👇 This is a really positive step for the criminal justice system. James Timpson has been appointed as the new Prisons, Probation & Parole Minister - someone with both experience and empathy for such an important role. We know first-hand the work James has done to improve prospects for ex-offenders and also influence other employers to give people chances. We're excited to see what difference he can make and will be ready to help out wherever we can.

Brilliant MOJ APPOINTMENT James Timpson is new Prisons and Probation Minister. He has been made Lord Timpson. At long last we will have someone at the MOJ who has knowledge experience and more, common sense. He is also kind. I type this with a wide smile !

Kind of excited about this! We’ve extended our partnership with Cumberland Building Society They’ve made another hugely generous donation to our food redistribution work, extending their Kinder Kind of Kitchens Initiative for a second year. This is on top of last year’s £250,000 donation, which we shared out with 52 of our members across Cumbria. We’re excited to see how this extra funding will help groups to keep tackling food poverty and supporting people in need while we all work on preventing food waste. Our Chief Exec Alasdair Jackson OBE has been on a podcast talking about our work and his journey. Take a listen 👇🏻

Yesterday I was lucky enough to chat to Michael McCusker of The Turnaround Project for his Lived Experience podcast. It was an opportunity to talk about my own journey to the job I’ve found myself doing and the origins and growth of Recycling Lives Charity. If you have some spare time to listen to my slightly embarrassing journey from lazy student to charity Chief Exec then please do check it out and let me know what you think. Here at Recycling Lives Charity we see part of our role as contributing to the local community. We do it in many ways but recently when a local youth football team reached out for help painting their new changing rooms we were delighted to help. 4 of the lads in our residential programme volunteered to spend two days painting the walls as part of giving something back. Massive thanks to Karl, Tony, Ian & Ryan who gave up their time to do this fantastic job (and also painted themselves at the same time). We got the following feedback from Paul Bolton who is the Chairperson of Gregson Lane FC.. "On behalf of Gregson Lane Football club we would like to thank you for the fantastic support you have given us in renovating and painting our changing rooms at The Frank Thompson sports ground. You have done a fantastic job and without people and companies like yours stepping forward to help and offering this sort of assistance, many grassroots football clubs like ours would find it so hard to carry on. Your generosity is very much appreciated and will be enjoyed by the players in the club for many more years to come."
