The European Open Source Strategy - published by the European Commission today. 🚀 The Open Source Strategy formally positions open technologies as digital commons — shared public-interest infrastructures critical to European sovereignty, democratic resilience, and cybersecurity — rather than just cost-effective alternatives. NGI Commons Why does this shift matter so much? 📢 There are nearly 25 million EU developers generating over 155 million contributions to public projects in a single year. Yet the commercial value of this output is disproportionately captured by large non-EU companies, who routinely package European open-source assets into profitable proprietary platforms while the underlying communities remain underfunded. NGI Commons 🇪🇺 The package aims to change that. The Commission will mobilise EU programmes and public procurement to help open source initiatives become sustainable businesses — through dedicated accelerators and support under the European Competitiveness Fund. 🚩 A Digital Commons EDIC will pool national resources to jointly fund cross-border open source infrastructure for AI, cloud, and cybersecurity. 💪 The direction is right, but the hard work starts now! Funding must be continuous, not project-by-project. Procurement must actually shift. And the maintainers of critical open source infrastructure need recognition and long-term protection — not just one-off grants. The highly anticipated Tech Sovereignty Package is finally published! Rather than acting simply as a protectionist barrier, the Tech Sovereignty Package is structured as a comprehensive roadmap to reshape Europe's technological footprint 

How are European and Chinese standards communities approaching the challenge of Green ICT — and where can cooperation make a difference? On 15 June, InDiCo-Global and SESEC are bringing together representatives from standards organisations, industry, technical communities, and public authorities for a half-day workshop on the development and implementation of technical standards and KPIs for Green ICT.
