🇪🇺 As part of the #DigitalOmnibus proposal, the European Commission stated that it would introduce only minor simplifications for #EU companies, whilst explicitly declaring that it would maintain a “high level of protection” for Europeans. 🔍 However, a recently leaked document appears to prioritise the interests of #BigTech, enabling the use of all personal data collected over the past decades with virtually no restrictions, as long as this happens “in the context” of #AI. This is insanity. Irish Presidency's draft text of amendments to the GDPR. This allows training and operation of any AI without safeguards & a tough legal basis ("legitimate interest" merely requires that the company claims what it is doing is OK, and it's up to you to find out and challenge them in court). This is a free pass for US hyperscalers.

🤖 Will the profits of #AI companies trump data protection?
