What happens to your digital identity after death? It's a question most of us avoid, but one that affects everyone with an online presence. In this insightful interview with Help Net Security, OpenID Foundation member Dean H. Saxe discusses the work of our Death and the Digital Estate Community Group (DADE CG), which is developing frameworks to help families access digital assets when loved ones pass away or become incapacitated. Read the interview here: https://lnkd.in/djxKmFe4 Dean also talks through the key themes addressed in our new whitepaper and digital estate planning guide, both of which are open for public comment until this Friday - October 24th. You can read more about the paper here: https://lnkd.in/e2_3WnpB Whether you're a service provider, estate planner, policymaker, or concerned individual, your feedback will help shape the future of digital identity standards. 🌐 Where the Future of Identity is Built The OpenID Foundation is pleased to see the start of another Internet Identity Workshop this week — a truly unique unconference that has been driving innovation in digital identity since 2005. Held twice a year, IIW brings together developers, policy experts, researchers, and technologists to collaborate openly on the technologies & standards shaping decentralized identity, digital credentials, authentication, and trust frameworks. What makes IIW special is its format — participants set the agenda in real time, engaging in deep, peer-led discussions that move the industry forward. It’s a space where ideas become standards and collaboration drives a more secure, user-centric digital future. OIDF wishes all participants a productive and inspiring week at #IIW! #DigitalIdentity #OpenIDFoundation #IIW #IdentityStandards #Interoperability

The OpenID Foundation welcomes FIDO Alliance's new whitepaper examining how our Shared Signals Framework (SSF) works alongside FIDO authentication to address enterprise security challenges. The paper demonstrates an important principle: authentication is just the first step. While FIDO provides phishing-resistant login, our SSF protocols (CAEP and RISC) enable: -Continuous security monitoring post-authentication -Real-time threat signal sharing across platforms -Automated response to emerging risks -Zero standing privilege architectures We are supporting implementers with free SSF test suites available now, with certification coming later this year. Thank you to the FIDO Enterprise Deployment Working Group for illustrating how aligned our specifications are. We look forward to partnering on future versions. The future of AI agents depends on what we build together. The response to our AI agent identity whitepaper this week has been incredible. But this is just the beginning of a critical conversation. Here's what makes this challenge unique. AI agents represent a fundamental shift in how digital systems operate. Unlike traditional applications with predictable patterns, autonomous agents will make complex decisions, delegate authority, and operate across organizational boundaries in ways our current identity frameworks simply weren't designed for. The research identifies critical challenges - agents switching between acting independently and acting on behalf of users, building trust when agents work across different organizations, and verifying agent actions automatically without needing humans to approve everything. This isn't a problem any single organization can solve alone. The OpenID Foundation's Artificial Intelligence Identity Management Community Group is actively seeking input from developers, security professionals, and enterprise architects working with AI agents. To contribute: -Review the whitepaper and raise issues on GitHub – https://lnkd.in/dTUESv6q -Submit feedback via the Google Form – https://lnkd.in/d3qaVsKu -Join the weekly open community calls – https://lnkd.in/d4-CEa2W Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e29sqNQj Tobin South Atul Tulshibagwale Nancy Cam-Winget Aaron Parecki Nat Sakimura 💯 George Hopkin Pamela Dingle Heather Flanagan Gail Hodges #OpenID #AIInnovation #TechCommunity #CollaborativeInnovation

Two days ago we shared the OpenID Foundation's research on AI agent identity challenges. Today, we focus on what organizations should do about it. Organizations do not need to wait for new standards. The research recommends leveraging OAuth 2.0 for authentication, adopting the Model Context Protocol (MCP) with proper security measures, and using dedicated authorization servers rather than building custom solutions. As these agents become more autonomous, who needs to act right now? · Developers: Build flexible systems that let agents act on behalf of users, while following proven enterprise security standards like IPSIE. · Standards bodies: Develop common protocols now, before companies build incompatible proprietary systems. · Enterprises: Manage agents like you manage users. Establish clear governance policies, access controls, and lifecycle management from creation to retirement. We need to act now. Without industry collaboration, companies will build incompatible systems that are harder to secure and slower to innovate. What's your organization doing to prepare?
