During National Recovery Month, HRCI Board Chair Kathy Claytor, SPHR, GPHR, represented HRCI at the White House in support of the Recovery Friendly Workplace initiative. As part of the “Building the Foundation” panel, Kathy joined leaders from government, business, and recovery-focused organizations to discuss how employers can help create workplace cultures that support recovery and employees experiencing substance use challenges. Read Kathy’s reflections from the event below.
These are a few snapshots from my time at the White House this morning supporting the Recovery Friendly Workplace initiative. I was honored to represent HRCI on a panel entitled "Building the Foundation," where my co-presenters and I discussed creating a recovery-friendly workplace culture and the business data that supports those strategies. Gerard Gaumond, Dona Dmitrovic, Kimberly McRoy, SHRM-SCP, and Eliza Zarka - thank you for an enriching conversation. We also had the privilege of hearing stories of lived experience in a panel moderated by Dr. Roneet Lev, and to learn from leaders at other certified Recovery Friendly Workplaces - including the State of North Dakota, Premise Health, Associated Builders and Contractors, and Shaw Industries. Many thanks to the dignitaries in attendance for their attention to this important work. Collaborating with leaders, organizations, and individuals so focused on supporting recovery is an experience I will never forget.
