September is Suicide Prevention Month. This month, Kiewit is keeping mental health front and center in our offices and on our jobsites across North America. Through our Under the Hat: Building Healthy Minds program and industry initiatives like Hard Hat Courage, Kiewit is working to raise awareness and provide resources that help our people and their families get the help they need. Kiewit is also joining fellow members of the Canadian Construction Safety Council to support “Looking Out For Each Other,” an industry-wide campaign focused on mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Kiewit has been selected to help deliver Project 1 of the City of Houston’s East Water Purification Plant (EWPP) Enhancement project. The project will expand the existing water treatment plant’s production capacity by up to 360 million gallons per day, helping provide clean, reliable drinking water to meet the growing needs of the Houston area. As Construction Manager At-Risk (CMAR), Kiewit will collaborate with Houston Public Works, its project advisor Carollo and design partner CDM Smith to provide input on the design, help optimize costs and plan for efficient construction of the plant. “We’re proud to partner with the City of Houston on this important investment in Houston’s water infrastructure,” said Kiewit Water Facilities South Co. President Tony Joyce. "We look forward to bringing our construction and engineering expertise to every phase of this project and working with our partners to deliver a reliable expansion that will benefit Houston residents for years to come.”

The Flaming Gorge Dam and Powerhouse project was featured on the cover of our Kieways magazine in 1963. Located on Utah's Green River, the dam rises 502 feet from bedrock to crest and required one million cubic yards of concrete and close to two million tons of aggregate. In addition to the dam itself, the project scope included powerhouse construction, a diversion tunnel, access roads and a townsite to house personnel. Construction began in 1958 and the final bucket of concrete was poured in November 1962 for the Bureau of Reclamation.
