Excited to share that my first pull request to Kgateway (a Kubernetes Gateway API implementation) has been merged! I first learned about the project thanks to Lin Sun's insightful posts, and I knew I wanted to contribute to such an interesting space in the cloud-native ecosystem. My PR focused on refining the LocalRateLimitPolicy, This change makes the API significantly more intuitive for developers configuring rate limits. Shoutout to Shashank Ram for the detailed code review! I learned a ton from his feedback, specifically about: 🔹 API Hygiene: How to design clean, descriptive Kubernetes APIs. 🔹 Schema Validation: The right way to use Kubebuilder markers to enforce constraints directly in the CRD. Refactoring open-source code is rarely just about changing variable names; it's about making the tool better for everyone who uses it. The Dilemma of Open Source 🤔 We heard this feedback loud and clear: some core features were only available in our enterprise version and not in open source kgateway. At the same time, we had to be honest with ourselves about what it takes to build and sustain an open source project long term. Striking a balance between keeping kgateway open and funding its continued development was no easy task. After a lot of discussion, we made the decision to open source some of our core enterprise features in kgateway. 🚀 Many of these are already shipped in the latest builds, with more to come.

🎄 Compliments of the season, Techwriters! The past few weeks have been challenging, but so rewarding. One highlight? kgateway has been growing steadily under the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). 🎉 The major inflection point came when we were accepted into CNCF earlier this year, alongside all the AI innovation (serving as inference, LLM, MCP and agent gateway) happening in the project. 🚀

Chatting with a user about kgateway today and wanted to clear up a few myths about kgateway: - kgateway focuses on the control plane ⚙️ that implements the Kubernetes Gateway API for both microservices and AI workloads 🤖. - The control plane translates your Kubernetes Gateway API resources into configuration the underlying proxy can understand 🔁. - The proxy layer is handled by Envoy (for microservices) or agentgateway (for AI workloads) 🚀. Love both Envoy and agentgateway 💜.
