Emily has wanted to become a veterinarian since she was a child, but her journey has been anything but one-track. At Clemson University, she gained hands-on experience with companion animals, dairy cows, beef cattle, horses and sheep, discovering new possibilities in veterinary medicine along the way. Today, she’s especially passionate about mixed-animal medicine and is still exploring where her path may take her. That spirit of exploration is exactly what the Antech Veterinary Futures Scholarship, created in partnership with Vet Set Go, was designed to celebrate. Some of the best meetings are the ones where you forget to take pictures. Luckily we saw a good opportunity for one in the airport! 💜 Antech Diagnostics I came back from our FSS North America meeting in Colorado with almost no photos, because I was too busy learning, collaborating, and connecting with an incredible group of people who are truly passionate about advancing pet care. It was inspiring to spend time with teammates from across North America, share ideas, learn from one another, and see firsthand how much expertise and heart this team brings every day. I’m grateful to be part of an organization where collaboration isn’t just encouraged, it’s what moves us forward. As our new branding says, better pet care is in our DNA. Timely, accurate cytology is a cornerstone of exceptional patient care. It gives veterinary teams the diagnostic confidence they need to make critical decisions for their patients. One of the highlights of my US trip was the opportunity to tour the Antech Diagnostics laboratory in Fountain Valley, California. 🧪🔬 As one of Antech’s larger laboratories in the United States, the team processes around 50,000 samples every week. Seeing the scale of the operation firsthand was genuinely impressive. From haematology, serology, parasitology, histopathology and microbiology, through to the sophisticated logistics and communication systems that keep everything moving, it was a remarkable insight into what happens behind the scenes every day. What struck me most was the perspective it gave me. As veterinarians, we discuss diagnostic fees with clients every day, but seeing the expertise, technology, infrastructure, and people required to deliver these services reinforced just how much value those investigations represent. Every sample tells a story. Behind each one is a dedicated veterinary team striving to achieve the very best outcome for an animal and the people who care deeply for them. ❤️🐾 A sincere thank you to Jimmy Barr for making this visit possible, and to Katie Ma for so generously sharing her time and providing such an informative tour. Reid Park Zoo's Animal Health Center has been upgraded with its first-ever Computed Tomography unit, also known as a CT scanner. This new addition will revolutionize care for the animals and we are beyond grateful to the Armstrong McDonald Foundation for making it possible. As Chief Veterinarian Dr. Roth mentions, CT scans provide cross sectional imaging of vital organs, bones, and soft tissue in detail. Not only does this elevate our preventative medicine for animals at Reid Park Zoo, but the information we learn can be shared with other zoo colleagues and conservation partners around the world, contributing to the growing body of research and improved care for animals in the wild. Special thanks to Antech Diagnostics Senior Field Applications Specialist Shalee for installing the CT scanner, and training our Vet team.
