Meet "Miracle Madison". ❤️ Madison Oglesby Sato was born at only 26 weeks weighing just over a pound, her eyelids fused, lungs not functioning, and severely dehydrated. Her parents were given slim odds that she would survive. Madison spent three months in CHKD's NICU in the spring of 1999, growing steadily under the care of experienced staff and with the help of a respirator and incubator. After discharge, Madison later graduated the NICU Follow-Up Program with a clean bill of health. 25 years ago, Madison's extraordinary story was featured in KidStuff. Her neonatologist, Dr. W. Thomas Bass, and her NICU nurse, Beth Bonifas, attended her wedding to Kenji Sato last year. "We will be forever grateful to CHKD and the amazing staff in the NICU for helping our daughter," writes Julie Oglesby, Madison's mom. "CHKD is family."
