IMO –
the International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN sustainable development goals.
Government officials and representatives from the private sector came together for a workshop in Lami Bay, Fiji to develop a national approach to regulating in-water cleaning of ship’s biofouling.
A needs assessment mission was conducted in Cabo Verde (8-12 June) to support the future implementation of a Maritime Single Window (MSW) system in the Port of Mindelo.
IMO is advancing the next phase of its NextWave Seafarers initiative, expanding opportunities for aspiring seafarers from developing countries to gain the sea-time experience required to enter the maritime profession.
