Artist Transforms Trash Into Mobile Homes For Homeless
After realizing that all his expensive sculptures do is sit in rich people’s houses all day, California-based sculptor Gregory Kloehn decided that he should create work that was more useful and meaningful. This is how the idea was born to build creative custom-made shelter houses for those in need.
The mobile houses that he has created for the homeless so far are all different and highly imaginative. The only things they have in common are their wheels, which allow their inhabitants to move their houses wherever they want, their pitched roofs, which protect them from the rain, and their small size. Otherwise, the houses vary greatly with their many surprising design ideas. Who knew that a refrigerator door could become a replacement for a regular door and that a washing-machine door could be a window? What’s more, the artist mostly uses garbage that has been dumped illegally, making the project beneficial in yet another way.
You can contribute to the project by donating the money necessary to build more of these houses. For further information, visit his website.

Got wisdom to pour?
I pass the houses all the time… very nice people that live there. Always trying to invite me to have some coffee with them. Unfortunately I don’t drink coffee but very sweet to invite me.
if anyones interested in doing a london version drop me a line scottishdave.goodman@hotmail.co.uk.
wish id had one when I was sleepin ruff these are much more pimped than a bush or binroom and as an art student myself this is inspiring stuff, keep up the good work. its not a solution for entire issue but can be the stepping stone for individuals
Very nice idea and intention.
Just don’t expect this as a solution for the homeless problem in the world. Protection from the environment conditions is just one of the many surviving necessities that people have.
And I’m not saying that he should solve the homeless problem. What he did was beautiful and very kind.
Unfortunately people need to eat, drink, eliminate residues, take care of health, etc, every single day.
I’m sure someone will make a law against this somewhere. The homeless are not allowed to carry around their belongings in some cities already.
I hear ya. Some cities made it against the law to be homeless…Gee what a wonderful thing…They give them a ride to the city limits and a boot in the ass. We treat illegals and POWs better. Just another symptom of the decay.
