20 Colorful Sculptures With Intricate Details, As Created By Carol Long
Kansas-based artist, Carol Long, has spent nearly four decades perfecting her craft of working with clay. Over the past 12 years, she has been passionately creating vibrant clay sculptures inspired by the world of plants and animals.
For Carol, clay’s appeal lies in its ever-evolving nature, constantly challenging her problem-solving skills throughout the creative process. In a previous interview with DeMilked, the artist said, “Manipulating a piece of clay and solving problems throughout the process has always been intriguing. One will never stop learning when working with clay. Clay can continue after firing to look as fluid as it was before firing.”
Carol’s process revolves around the vessel, using techniques like wheel throwing, slab building, extrusion, and casting. Each piece undergoes extensive transformation to create unique textures and character. Her distinct touch comes from intricate slip trailing, resulting in stunning surface embellishments.
