The classification is based on LCCS developed by FAO. Therefore, it is possible to compare and integrate GLCNMO and other land cover data products based on LCCS. The data were created by using MODIS data observed in 2003 (TERRA Satellite). As MODIS data were not available for polar areas, we defined coastline of Antarctica using the Global Map Antarctica version 1.0 (originally from ADD by SCAR) and classified land cover inside Antarctica as "snow and ice". In the north area higher than latitude 80 degrees, the land cover classification was made by referring GLC2000. Purpose >The Global Map is a basic framework database designed to support Geographic Information Systems applications, especially for examination of global environmental issues.
