If the data is encrypted, the server may transmit the encrypted data or it may decrypt the data for the node before transmission. In other embodiments, no table is stored by the server. In these embodiments the data is encrypted using one or more encryption keys. When a node requests data the server transmits the encrypted data to the node. If the node does not have the proper encryption keys, it may request them from the server.

For fellow VCs wanting to improve #diversity in their portfolios, I've put together some suggestions about what you can do focussing on the very first step: the top of your deal-flow funnel. Despite many funds having good intentions, the stats are stubbornly to shift. Only 2% of UK VC funding going to all-female teams and less than 0.5% to black founders - meanwhile, nearly half of all capital goes to companies based in London If your top of funnel isn’t diverse, it’s rarely because diverse founders don’t exist. It’s because many quietly self-select out. Why does this matter? If your portfolio founders are not representative of the population they are drawn from, you're not seeing all the deals you could. And, the data are clear on mixed gender teams outperforming single gender teams, so you're leaving performance on the table. A few practical ways to widen the funnel: 🗣️ Use inclusive, specific language (clarity beats vague “exceptionalism”) 🚪 Be accessible with clear contact routes, open applications or office hours 📜 Signal your commitment (e.g. Investing in Women Code, Diversity VC certification) 👭 Diversify sourcing beyond the usual universities, networks and accelerators 👥 Build balance into teams, panels and visible moments 🧰 Offer support beyond capital at the top of the funnel 📊 Track who enters your funnel and make DEI part of how you operate You don’t need to lower standards — you need to remove unnecessary friction. 3 years ago, we launched The UK's ScaleUp Investment Platform to help more ambitious founding teams raise Series A-B on good terms, with less distraction to running their business. 2 years ago we started collating venture data, and invited private and public sector stakeholders to collaborate to improve conditions for success, becoming The UK ScaleUp Investment Mission. Supported by 100 key organisations from across the ecosystem, and £13bn of VCs. This week we published The UK ScaleUp Investment Report 2026, detailing at-a-glance summary of both the successes and as yet unrealised opportunities for the ecosystem to support more scaleups to grow with venture-backing. The report (with 26 contributors, and hundreds of hours of research, founder and VC surveying, preparatory meetings), shows that in 2025: → Over £17bn was invested into innovative UK companies → Yet less than 600 raised Series A or B funding (£3.5bn) → Just 7% of seed-funded startups progressed to institutional scaleup capital This demonstrates there are still missing rungs on the funding ladder. The UK ScaleUp Investment Report 2026 is well worth a read, by scaling founders, VCs, ecosystem and Government. Its a data-led assessment of the UK’s scaleup investment landscape, combining: → 2025 venture data analysis → Founder and investor sentiment insights → Founders’ view of policy changes across government and public finance initiatives → Alternative funding options → Ecosystem ambitions for the year ahead The conclusion is clear: capital exists. Ambition exists. But access, coordination and investment readiness remain structural challenges. If we are serious about creating more UK venture-backed scaleup successes, we must move beyond fragmented support and lean into what we call ‘venture collaboration’ - public and private sector working together with shared objectives to help more companies scale with investment. The UK ScaleUp Investment Report was launched at VenturePath’s first annual UK ScaleUp Investment Summit, joined by Minister McDougall, Minister for Small Business & Economic Transformation.
