WordPress gets criticised a lot these days and honestly that always makes me smile a little because the thing is most of the people shouting the loudest are still quietly using it somewhere. I am sitting here with a messy desk, WordPress open on one screen, Elementor on another, and a Pepsi Max slowly losing its fizz beside the keyboard. And the thought that keeps coming back is simple. Tools are just tools. The thinking behind them is what matters. People can chase the next shiny thing if they want. That is fine. But I like knowing exactly how something works, shaping it carefully, and building something that does what the client actually needs. And that is when it suddenly clicks that loyalty to a tool is not stubbornness. It is understanding the craft. #WordPress

You asked for a small change on your website and were told it's on the list. Not a big change. A counter under a box. A warning when two settings clash. Somewhere to see which pages you've hidden from Google. The kind of thing that takes an afternoon if the person you're asking can touch the code, and a quarter, or never, if they can't. On Tuesday morning an SEO consultant I know spent an hour in our CMS at my invitation and sent me her notes. Some were things it already did. A few were business questions. Four were things she was right about. By teatime those four were built, tested and in the weekly update. I've written up what she found, what changed, and what it says about the difference between renting a platform and owning one. Including the fix that wasn't a fix: the thing she asked for had been there for months and she couldn't see it, and that turned out to be the bug.
