Our new research shows that data centres face growing risks as their locations are increasingly impacted by extreme weather and global conflict. In the US, just 20 sites account for 80% of data centre space hit by severe tornadoes and hailstorms over the last decade – sites generating around $16 billion a year. Globally, armed conflicts are creeping nearer to data centre locations. In 2025, those within 10-15km of active conflict zones equalled ~60% of the previous five years combined. For developers, operators and investors, understanding where these risks are concentrated can support better decisions on site selection, risk mitigation and resilience.
