Thanks to Siobhan Kennedy at Channel 4 News for speaking yesterday about why now is the crucial moment for the UK government to ensure the UK is at the forefront of global AI and tech progress - it's a hugely exciting opportunity and we have to seize it! AI is advancing at a phenomenal pace, and the UK is very well placed to be an indispensable part of the value chain, and capture more of the enormous value being created right now in AI, in the UK. The government should double down on our competitive advantage in domains that require a world-class talent, R&D and business environment - advantages that have enabled the momentum Fractile has today. Advancing AI also brings security concerns alongside economic opportunities, and serious state capacity is essential. Building on the success of the AI Security Institute (AISI), the government should go further to bring in the best possible people to work on the critical issues facing us today.

Great to speak to Maya Dharampal-Hornby at Sifted about the opportunity Kanishka Narayan MP has to make an even bigger impact in his new Cabinet role. Machinery of government changes grab headlines, and a huge amount of work will go into this one. But the factors that really drive long term impact are people, and clarity of purpose. In his role at DSIT, Kanishka has been a fantastically effective champion of bringing in top talent to work with real focus on the most important challenges facing the British state in AI, supporting excellent teams like AI Security Institute (AISI) and Sovereign AI. Keeping this focus on UK state capacity is vital to seizing the opportunity we have right now in AI.

When I first met Carmen more than two years ago, I was confronted with a paradox - how could this person who would reply to texts and emails within a minute at 2:30am and 5am, who seemed to sleep less than anyone I had ever met, also be one of the most intensely focused, energetic, capable and positive people I had met in my career? At Fractile, we're combining breakthrough speed with the real-world economics that make ultra-fast AI inference viable at scale. I'll be giving a talk on "Scaling Ultra-Fast Inference" at the Cambridge Wireless Technology and Engineering conference in London next Wednesday, 8th July, as part of the Design and Future Compute Architectures session.
