🚀 Yesterday, we launched the AMR Policy Accelerator’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan at the Global Strategy Lab at York University, joined by our team, university colleagues, York University Interim President and Vice-Chancellor Lisa Philipps, Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health, Maggie Chi, and Wellcome Trust CEO John-Arne Røttingen.    🌟 Our new Strategic Plan sets out our priorities for the next four years as we work with new and existing partners to advance a future where antimicrobials are sustainably developed, accessed, and used to equitably preserve the health of people, animals, plants, and the environment. 📘 Explore our 2026–2030 Strategic Plan  https://lnkd.in/g9wAEg5U Our new strategy will support the ambition of the 2024 Political Declaration on Antimicrobial Resistance by focussing on two interconnected areas: strengthening AMR global governance and championing evidence-informed national policy decisions.    💥 This next phase of the Accelerator will prioritize turning evidence into action, strengthening the connections between global commitments and national implementation, and working with partners to advance more effective and equitable responses to AMR.    We are also delighted to announce renewed funding from Wellcome to support the next phase of the Accelerator’s work.      👏 Thank you to York University, Wellcome, and the many partners, collaborators and colleagues who have helped us reach this point. This week I’ve been at the UN General Assembly in New York.  A key moment was the launch of Accra Reset’s new agenda; "A Sovereign Future for Health”, led by President of Ghana, John Mahama and leaders from Africa, Latin America and Asia.   Global health has achieved remarkable progress over the past 25 years. Child mortality has been cut in half. Maternal deaths have fallen. New HIV, TB and malaria infections have been reduced, saving millions of lives.   But the system that delivered those gains has also become increasingly fragmented.   Accra Reset’s recommendations align closely with those set out in a commentary in Nature Medicine I recently co-authored with a group of global health experts around the world and are also well rooted in the Lusaka agenda.  Global reform should be driven by country needs. We need health financing that can support government plans and budgets. Global health institutions should support national priorities rather than directing them.    We’ve converged on a set of ideas. Now we need to agree concrete, actionable steps to ensure they are translated in to practice. We must all step up to be the architects and authors of the radical reform that is needed.   To achieve this, we need strong political leadership and partnership. It's always inspiring to see the next generation of researchers come together, not only to share their work, but to build the connections and support networks that will help shape their careers. Over the last 18 months, we've brought together over 250 early-career researchers through these events, creating opportunities for collaboration, learning and peer support across a diverse range of disciplines. The enthusiasm, curiosity and ambition in the room are always remarkable. This video captures just a snapshot of the energy that emerges when talented early-career researchers come together with a shared commitment of advancing knowledge with the potential to transform health. It's a privilege to support these researchers at such an important stage in their careers, and I look forward to seeing how their work, collaborations and discoveries continue to develop in the years ahead. As leaders gather during Climate Week NYC, the priority must be turning commitments into practical, equitable action that protects health and communities now and in the future.

Climate Week has plenty of speeches. What if what we need is a song? 🎵 As United Nations General Assembly and #ClimateWeekNYC kick off, so does UN Live with a new release from EARTHGANG + NATURE. 🎙️ 🌦️ Cool Me Down responds to a world of rising temperatures with something deliberately different: not another warning, but a track people actually want to turn up. And every listen does something. Through our Sounds Right initiative, 50% of the track’s royalties flow to nature-based solutions addressing extreme heat. Information alone doesn’t always move people. Culture can make us feel what’s at stake — and imagine that things could be different. It can carry a global challenge far beyond the rooms where decisions are made, reaching millions through something already part of their everyday lives. That belief sits at the heart of our work at Museum for the United Nations - UN Live, and of our partnership with Wellcome Trust, who are pioneering new ways of bringing culture, climate and health together. That’s the idea we’re bringing to New York this week, from the United Nations Headquarters to Times Square and Spotify's platform. As EARTHGANG put it: "Cool Me Down is electric and hypnotizing.
