Congratulations to #Manchester based SEIS and EIS investee company Ryft for raising £20m Series B funding. Ryft, which builds payment solutions for marketplaces, platforms and multi-location businesses, was founded in 2021 by Richard Kirby, Sadra Hosseini and Alex Mackenzie. The EIS Association has been delighted to support the work of the Invest in Women Taskforce, with our Chair, Joanna Jensen, serving on its Angel Investment Committee. Not every business grows at the same speed. The Invest in Women Taskforce has recently released its 2026 Manifesto, setting out five pillars for action to help unlock the UK’s full entrepreneurial and investment potential. One of the areas they’ve looked at is modernising tax incentives to “close the gap” - recognising that EIS needs to reflect the realities of today’s founders and businesses. Among its recommendations are: 👉 Removing the seven-year EIS eligibility limit 👉 Reaching more new and underrepresented investors At the EIS Association, we engage with government, HM Treasury, HMRC and industry representatives on the future of the EIS and SEIS ecosystem, and we’re pleased to support conversations around how these schemes can continue to evolve. 🚀 North East based startups benefiting from SEIS investment increased by 80% after the SEIS company age limit was extended to three years in April 2023. Last week, we brought together exciting university spinouts from the North East and S/EIS investors for a special edition of our speed networking events. In collaboration with Northern Accelerator and kindly hosted by Sage at their London offices, the event was a great opportunity to connect, share experiences and start conversations. We began with a short investor panel chaired by Christiana Stewart-Lockhart, featuring insights from Andrew Aldridge of Deepbridge Capital, Adam B. Beveridge of SFC Capital, Anne Dobrée of Parkwalk Advisors and Jacob Milner of NoBa Capital, before moving into speed networking. Spinouts joined us from Durham University, Teesside University, University of Sunderland, Northumbria University and Newcastle University. The feedback from founders really captured why events like this matter: 💬 Informal networking can lead to valuable conversations and answers. 🤝 Warm introductions can open doors that might otherwise take much longer to find. 💡 Meeting investors face-to-face creates opportunities to explore ideas, ask questions and build relationships.
