You and I are in tune on the pleasures of silence.

The one area where we differ is in regards to writing with background noise, but for me it depends a lot on where I am in the writing process. If I'm in stream of consciousness mode I like background sounds like music. But if I'm trying to solve a problem I want silence: I turn everything off. I'm the same way with coding.

Leaf blowers, lawn mowers, screaming children: even with the nicest of neighbours, suburbia is just too 'noisy' for me. I'm in a semi-rural area now, and can sit on my deck, see nothing but trees, mountains, and sky, and hear nothing but birds and wind sounds. It is blissful.
